Is Ikea a furniture store with a nice cafe corner or a cafe with a nice furniture corner? In the mornings, Ikea at Alexandra Road, which is a convenient location in Singapore, certainly looks like the latter. Almost all their patrons are here for breakfast. And with prices like this, it is easy to see why.
I had the loh mai kai (glutinous rice with chicken) for breakfast. It was not a large portion but enough as a simple meal. It was flavourful and the chunks of chicken inside were cooked just nice and not overdone as such dishes tend to be. I had complimentary coffee by virtue of my Ikea membership (which is quite easily acquired). Other than lor mai kai there are some other items available from $1 to $5. Scrambled eggs and pancake for $1.50 also looks good.
Airconditioned comfort, pleasant decor and reasonably priced food and free coffee. It is no wonder that Ikea seems more like a dining destination than a furniture store at certain hours.

Wow, didn’t know they did loh mai gai and siew mai in Ikea!
Yes, “think global, act local” is a recurring corporate theme these days. Oh and I notice the two items you mentioned are types of dimshum 🙂
mmm… Ikea’s food taste somewhat “microwave,” not exactly what I would look for…
It’s a mass production kitchen 🙂
And nap time in one of their comfy beds after meal? 😉
Yezzzz, right after playtime in the room with many soft, colorful balls. 🙂
Fun blog!
