Boomarang is a cafe, bistro & bar which serves Australian cuisine in an elegant but casual setting. Boomarang at Robertson Quay sits by the Singapore River and offers all day dining. It is popular for its weekend brunch and is a spot for live sports viewing, especially for Australian Football League fans. Kangaroo meat and Australian draught beer on tap are key attractions.
There is an al fresco dining area and indoor seating. The interior decor is contemporary and elegant. Plenty of wood is used and there are very prominent and interesting ceiling decorations. It is intended to have an open and airy feel but on a hot afternoon it may mean that the air-conditioning will not be optimal. When we went there for lunch on a not too hot afternoon, it was a little warm and stuffy on the outside along the corridor as well as at a table right inside the cafe.
Boomarang’s breakfast menu includes items like fruit-filled french toast, open face melt and eggs done in a variety of ways. The lunch and dinner menu is extensive – covering starters, platters for sharing, burgers, grilled items, mains and desserts. Some of the more interesting items include Moreton Bay Seafood Basket (Beer-battered barramundi, crumbed prawn cutlets, pepper & lime calamari), Peppered Kangaroo Pizza, Kangaroo Burger and Devil’s Ribs (Baby pork ribs marinated in Chef’s devil’s sauce). They also have a kids’ menu.
We ordered a bowl of Roasted Pumpkin ($8) and a 14 inch Boomarang Deluxe Pizza ($26) to share. The pumpkins were well done and had a velvety texture with the right tinge of natural sweetness. The pizza with Wagyu beef, pepperoni, spicy Italian sausage, bacon, onion and mushroom was excellent. The crust was delectable and not chewy. The toppings combined well and the pizza on the whole was very delicious.
We had no room for the dessert offerings. The Sticky Date Pudding was particularly tempting We had latte ($5) to round off our lunch. The coffee was very good – as good as those at the better specialty coffee cafes.
We had an enjoyable lunch at Boomarang. The experience would have been improved if the service was a little better and friendlier. It could be that they were understaffed that day, as the staff covering our section seemed distracted by administrative duties she had to attend to.
Boomarang has a nice relaxed atmosphere and an interesting menu. The food was of good quality and tasty. It is definitely a place we would like to visit again.
