We had tried the food at A-One Claypot House sometime back and thought their porridge was delicious. We now see A-One Claypot has expanded their operations with outlets in many shopping malls all over Singapore – at least 11 locations. We went to A-One Claypot House at Kallang Wave Mall to check out if they had managed to maintain their standard despite the rapid expansion.
The decor of A-One Claypot House at Kallang Wave Mall, Singapore Sports Hub, is simple and neat. There are booth seats as well as tables which can be reconfigured to accommodate different-sized dining parties.
They seemed to have updated their menu and offer quite a wide variety of dishes other than claypot porridge and rice. Below are pictures of their promotion board and sections of their menu.
Orders at A-One Claypot House at Kallang Wave Mall are made by filling up an order chit and handing it over to the staff. We ordered the Century Egg & Meat Ball Claypot Porridge ($11.90) and Spinach with Assorted Eggs ($14.90). We also ordered you tiao or fried dough stick ($1.90) to go with the porridge. A water chestnut drink was $2.20. The usual Chinese restaurant overheads would be charged and GST and service charge would be added to the bill.
The food was served quite soon after our orders were taken. The claypot porridge was really hot and we had to wait for a while before we could starting eating it. The porridge was full of ingredients with at least four or five decent sized meat balls.
The porridge itself had a nice consistency but was somewhat bland, which was a good thing as it did not mask the taste of the ingredients in it. The flavours of the eggs and meat combined well and was tasty. Overall, the claypot porridge was good comfort food which was delicious. Add a few pieces of crispy you tiao to the mix and we had a really enjoyable dish.
The poached spinach was a quite a large serving of spinach with differnt types of eggs and other ingredients like mushrooms, bean curd and goji berry or wolfberry. The goji berry added sweetness to the healthy and delicious dish.
The portions of the dishes at A-One Claypot House are quite generous. What we ordered was more than sufficient for the two of us.
Overall, we still think that the claypot porridge of A-One Claypot House is still of good standard and deserves its accolades. With a wide selection of food on its new menu, A-One Claypot House is a pleasant venue for tasty zhi char-style comfort food.
