Elemen Harbourfront – new vegetarian restaurant near Vivo City

Elemen Harbourfront Centre is the third Singapore outlet of popular vegetarian restaurant Elemen. According to their website, Elemen is a restaurant that respects life and promises to bring to their customers (among other things), “…an abundance of natural recipes that will nourish as well as heal your body and mind”.

Elemen Harbourfront is located on level 2 of Harbourfront Centre, the shopping mall that is next to and physically connected to Vivo City. Shoppers from one mall can cross over to the other directly, sometimes even without noticing that they have done so. Elemen is right next to the boundary between the malls on level 2. It is a small restaurant but the bright, modern space makes it feel spacious.

Here are pictures of some parts of the Elemen Harbourfront Menu. In addition to the a la carte menu, there was a range of set menus starting from $26.80++ per person.  We made a small selection from the a la carte menu.

We decided to try the double boiled maca soup ($8.80 each) after reading the write-up in the menu. We are told that maca is a superfood health enhancer. Like ginseng, it enhances energy and stamina levels as well as other benefits.  The maca soup turned out to be a dark coloured soup. It has an earthly and slightly herbal taste. I suppose the main reason to drink this maca soup is not the taste but the benefits.

With quinoa in the news recently, we tried the Sizzling Quinoa Brown Rice ($15.80). The quinoa was served in a hot stone pot which kept it warm till we were finished with it. It was prepared with a mix of many ingredients which I cannot identify specifically. What I can say is that this dish tasted delicious and I certainly will eat it again.  In addition to the health benefits associated with quinoa, I would prefer it over rice because of its nice chewy texture.

Both parts of the Asian Curry with Dough Balls ($12.80), the curry and the balls, were good. In fact the dough balls were tasty enough to be eaten on their own. The curry was mildly spicy. If nobody told me that Elemen is a vegetarian restaurant, I would have thought it was a bowl of chicken curry. Instead of meat, the curry contained vegetables and mushrooms. We detected a few variety of mushrooms. We did not miss having meat in the curry.

Our final dish of the day was White Truffle Mushroom Pizza ($15.80).  It was a very well made pizza with a paper-thin crust. The mushrooms and truffle flavours were enough to make up for the lack of meat.  This a pizza to that can stand toe to toe with one from a good Italian restaurant.

Overall the lunch at vegetarian restaurant Elemen Harbourfront was better than we had anticipated. Other than the soup, the dishes we had were all delicious.  We did not miss not having meat in any of them.
