TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant(同乐羲和), a collaboration between TungLok Group and Beijing renowned Xihe Group, serves much more than just Peking Duck. We visited their Orchard Central outlet recently and were surprised by the extensive menu covering the usual range of Chinese dishes and dim sum.
There is a TungLok Seafood Restaurant on the 11th Floor of Orchard Central. We witnessed quite a few diners who intended to go to the seafood restaurant but ended up at the door TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant by mistake. It must be quite a regular occurrence and the staff at the door politely redirected them to the TungLok on the higher level.
From the outside, TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant did not look big. The main doors open up to a dining space with just 4 tables with a show kitchen behind. The restaurant is in fact quite big. It can sit up to 150 and has 2 private rooms. There are tables along a wooden deck by the tall glass panels with a view of Orchard Road.
Menu of TungLok XiHe Peking Duck
The signature dish is TungLok XiHé Peking Irish Duck. However, a good range of dim sum and Chinese dishes, such as wok-fried crab, beef with Sichuan pepper, and braised lion head meatball, are available. In addition, there are set menus and seasonal menus. Here are pictures of random pages from the menus of TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant.
Lunch at TungLok XiHe Orchard Central
Our lunch at TungLok XiHe started with the Hot & Sour Chrysanthemum Tofu Soup ($8). It looked gorgeous with the silken tofu skillfully cut to resemble a beautiful chrysanthemum flower. The freshly made clear soup was packed with flavours. It looked simple but had complex taste; tangy, herbal and savory all at the same time.
The Poached Slice Fish ($22) was a Sichuan style spicy dish. The marinated fish slices were tender. The soup base made from Sichuan peppers and many other ingredients might not taste too spicy initially but it would soon deliver a numbing sensation to your mouth. It went well with plain steamed rice.
The Chinese style Black Pepper Beef ($24) was good. The beef was cooked just right – tender and juicy. It was another dish that was enjoyable with rice.
The Asparagus ($18) dish with mixed vegetables, nuts and mushroom looked healthy and appetizing. It was an enjoyable dish. We had Fresh Coconut ($5.80) which was refreshing.
Good Chinese Restaurant
TungLok XiHe is a good versatile Chinese restaurant. When we had lunch there, the service was prompt and friendly. The dining space was pleasant and it did not feel crowded or noisy. Overall the food was pretty good and the prices were fairly reasonable. 同乐羲和 TungLok XiHe Peking Duck Restaurant might be known for their roast duck but they have many other nice traditional and modern Chinese dishes. It is a nice Chinese restaurant in the heart of Orchard Road which is good for a meal with business associates, family or friends.
