TAP Craft Beer Raffles City is a modern pub that serves a range of craft beers on tap and food to eat with the booze. At $10++ a pint throughout the day, TAP seemed like the place to go for a drink and some quick bites on a hot day.
TAP Raffles City is located on the ground floor near the office tower. It is outward facing and only acccessible from the road (i.e. not from the shopping mall). It was quiet at lunch time and we shared the space with only a few other diners.
The beer taps take pride of place at the bar counter. The decor is quite pleasant, with an industrial vibe but without the usual dark pub atmosphere.
TAP Craft Beer Menu
I guess the reason why the TAP pub is interesting is the range of beers available. And the single price of $10++. They are not mainstream brands like Tiger, Guiness or Heineken but beers with names like Kona Longboard, Eagle Bay Amber and Sunbird Blood Orange.
There is a fair spread of food to go with the beer at TAP Craft Beer outlets. They range from the usual Western classics like pasta and tacos to Asian favourites like satay and Thai curry. Here are pictures of some potions of the food menu.
Food and Beer at Raffles City
Not being seasoned beer drinkers, we asked for recommendations and the Kona Longhorn lager was suggested to us. It was an easy going beer with little or none of the bitterness that is sometimes associated with beers. A pint of beer for $10++ in the heart of Singapore city is quite a reasonable price.
For food to go with the beer, we selected the chicken satay ($12 for 8 sticks) and a Kurobuta pork belly burger ($15). Both of them were presented very nicely. We enjoyed the satay but the burger was quite ordinary, although the curly fries that came with it were very nice.
To be honest, we had visited TAP Craft Beer Raffles City with rather low expectations of the food. Although not gourmet food, they turned out better than expected. They were good enough as casual food to accompany the beers. I suspect that the TAP pubs are popular watering holes for those working at offices, adjourning for drinks at 6 pm. The other TAP Craft Beer outlets are at Millenia Walk, Robertson Quay, One Raffles Link and 9 Penang Road (the former Park Mall).
