&JOY Dining Hall @ Great World is a Japanese food hall with a cluster of food outlets serving ramen, pizza, sushi, wagyu beef bowls, Japanese cooked food with Japanese beer and sake. We tried some ramen and pizza with Suntory beer on our visit to the “Enjoy” dining hall.
The brands represented at the & JOY Dining Hall Great World are ROMAN.TEI, RAMEN KIOU, Pittarino, Sushi-GO, Ichiban Express, Kuriya Japanese Market, Gokoku Japanese Bakery.
The &JOY Bar takes centre stage at this corner of the & JOY Dining Hall Great World. Various types of drinks are serve including Japanese sake and whiskey.
Kuriya Japanese Market
Kuriya Japanese Market sells a wide range of fresh fish and seafood air-flown directly from Japan.
The sashimi and sushi selections are pre-packed and can be bought as takeaway or to be consumed at the food hall. I suppose the latter is a good idea as the dining area is pleasant and food can be accompanied by some sake from the bar. Some types of fish were available as a whole fish. These can be prepared as sashimi or grilled (with a $10 charge) by the chef.
Ichiban Express
Next to Kuriya is Ichiban Express – a casual dining section featuring Japanese cooked food such as donburi, udon and soba dishes.
ROMAN.TEI
Roman.Tei is a meat specialist from Osaka that serves up beef bowls – steak over rice. Beef Jyu bowls and Beef Zen meals are available. This is picture of a portion of the menu.
Pittarino Pizza & Pasta
We are told that Pittarino is a Japanese phrase for “just right”, a description of what freshly-baked Neapolitan pizza and smooth, chewy Nama pasta with a dash of Japanese flavours should be. The pictures look so tempting that we decided to try one. It is useful to have pizzas served in two sizes – 12 and 8 inches.
RAMEN KIOU
Ramen KIOU is a ramen chain from Osaka that is said to specialise in “robustly delicious ramen characterised by its house-made fragrant, tender braised chashu and tasty pork bone broth”. The pictures on their menu certainly looked nice enough to entice us to try it. This is a picture of a portion of the menu.
Our Lunch at &JOY Dining Hall @ Great World
After looking at all the good food available at &JOY Dining Hall @ Great World, we decided to have ramen from RAMEN KIOU and pizza from Pittarino. We thought that the deluxe shoyu tonkatsu ramen ($14.50) was not bad. The noodles, broth as well as the egg and chashu toppings were find but not particularly memorable.
For the pizza, we decided on an 8 inch truffle mushroom pizza ($8.90) from Pittarino. The pizza had the potential to be very good. The dough had a nice texture and flavour. We thought that it should have been cooked longer. The dough was not crusty and was chewy without any crisp surface. The truffle mushroom topping did smell and taste very good.
The best thing at our lunch at &JOY Dining Hall @ Great World was the cold draft Suntory beer ($11). It will go well with most of the food available in this food hall.
