Dempsey Cookhouse Set Lunch : Contemporary Asian-Inspired European Food

We tried the Dempsey Cookhouse set lunch ($45++) when we were there recently. Like many of the restaurants at Dempsey, celebrity chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten’s Singapore flagship at COMO Dempsey was almost full when we tried making a reservation the day before. Only bar counter and outdoor seating were available.

We were glad we picked the bar counter seats over the outdoor tables. It was a hot sweltering day outside and dining at the bar counter was not too bad. The bar stools were comfortable and not those where our core muscles need to be constantly engaged to keep our balance. The view from the bar was also pleasant and it was easy to get service from the bartenders.

Being at the bar counter, we were easily tempted to try some of the cocktails. The slightly low prices for selected drinks as part of the set lunch provided an extra incentive. We picked the lychee raspberry bellini and cucumber martini ($15 each). They were both very tasty and refreshing. The cucumber martini was particularly good. If I ever need to drown my sorrows, this will be a good place to go.

Our Lunch at Dempsey

Our selected starters for our Dempsey Cookhouse set lunch were spiced chicken samosas and guacamole with peas and tortillas. They were both simple dishes, but well made with interesting flavours. These are the perfect finger food to go with drinks and and were the reason we ordered a second round of cocktails.

Our main courses were Veal Milanese (picture above) and 3-cheese pizza (picture below). We enjoyed the veal dish. Very thin slices of veal were breaded and deep-fried. The result was a light and non-oily dish. The pizza was not bad. The proscuitto ham added deep flavours to the pizza but the edges of the pizza were too hard for us. The soft chewy style of the truffle pizza we had at a previous visit to Dempsey Cookhouse was much better.
