Zazz Pizza – Casual Italian Restaurant with Wood Fired Oven (Relocated)

Zazz Pizza is a small Italian restaurant in the Middle Road / Selegie Road neighbourhood of Singapore. The highlight of our dinner was their artisanal pizza, eaten under the stars. You have until 16 May 2021 to enjoy this experience as they will be relocating to another place after that.

Zazz Pizza review

The Zazz Pizza casual Italian restaurant is located at the ground floor of a building surrounded by arty spaces. Within a stone’s throw away are the Lasalle College of the Arts and the School of the Arts (SOTA) Singapore. It is an area that buzzes with the energy of the youth. By being there, we raised the average age by a few notches. The air-conditioned part of the restaurant is quite small. The best time to be there is in the evening when it is cool enough to sit outdoors.

Zazz Pizza Menu

Zazz Pizza’s menu was more like a book than a typical menu. With just one dish on each page, diners get adequate information on what they are about to order. Here are pictures of some sample pages from the menu. You can view the online delivery menu here. The main items on the menu are pizzas (starting from $19) and pasta dishes (starting from $17).

Zesty Pizza and Pasta

We tried the top of the line pizza at Zazz – the $38 Parma Burrata pizza. It was a good looking pizza that looked very close to the picture in the menu. There was an abundance of toppings on this pizza – Parma ham, burrata cheese and other things. What stood out was the crust. This was one of the best pizza crust we had eaten in recent memory. It has a very light crisp skin. Underneath that skin is a body of chewy tasty dough. Our suggestion for a visit is to order a modestly priced Zazz pizza. The topping is secondary – the crust is the reason for the pizza.

Also delightful was the spaghetti vongole ($25). Fresh clams and lots of garlic to create a fabulous aroma which arrived before the dish landed on the table.

With a strong mushroom content, the mushroom risotto ($22) was also enjoyable, but not as memorable as the other two dishes. Overall, we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the Italian food at Zazz Pizza. The pizza and pasta dishes are a match for some of the more fancy (and expensive) Italian restaurants in town. It is a pity that they are moving soon as the neighbourhood is so suitable for this type of small casual eatery. We will visit them at their new location when they have settled in.
