Coriander Cafe is a small eatery on level 2 of Thomson Plaza which we have passed by many times on the way to NTUC Fairprice. But it was only recently that we stopped by for a quick lunch.

Decorated simply, Coriander Cafe looks like a staff canteen in a commercial building. It was quite full during lunch on a weekday. Office workers from the nearby areas are probably drawn by the reasonable prices at this restaurant at Thomson Plaza.
Coriander Cafe Menu
Like many tze char places, Coriander Cafe can prepare a wide range of food out of a small kitchen. Here are pictures of some portions of the Coriander Cafe menu. Fish head curry seem to be the specialty dish of the restaurant, but it was not suitable for the quick lunch that we had in mind. We ordered a couple of noodle dishes and a spring onion and ginger sliced fish ($12).

Our Lunch at Thomson Plaza

We were very happy with our two noodle dishes. The seafood bee hoon soup ($5, picture above) was light-flavoured and pleasant. It is the kind of food we would go for to avoid an oily or heavy meal. Priced not much more than a typical food court bowl of noodles, it makes sense to eat here. Similarly the fried beef hor fan (picture below) was a satisfying choice. There was little wok hei in this dish but we liked the overall flavoring. Many beef hor fan places use beef that had been tenderised till all the textures of meat are gone. This was not the case at Coriander Cafe – the beef slices still tasted like beef.

For variety, and since they say that fish is good for health, we tried the fried fish slices with spring onion and ginger ($12). We did not like this fish as the strong sauce overwhelmed the fish which also did not have a nice texture. For future visits we would probably stick to the simple noodle dishes and perhaps try the Coriander Cafe’s signature curry fish head.
