Culina at COMO Dempsey is an interesting restaurant where you can pick food from the Market and have it served at the Bistro. Our lunch included steak and wine from the market as well as items from the a la carte Culina Bistro menu.
Culina COMO Dempsey
COMO Dempsey is a cluster of shops and restaurants at Dempsey Hill Singapore. There are restaurants, a hip designer label fashion retail store and a grocery store that sells a wide range of ‘atas’ food. Culina COMO Dempsey has a bistro and a market housed under one roof. We were there for lunch in late January 2022 and CNY decorations were in full bloom.
The Culina Market: Meat and Fish Section
The meat and seafood sections at Culina COMO Dempsey stock a wide selection of meat. The fish selection is more limited. These are available for purchase as retail or to be cooked in the kitchen and served in the bistro. There is a preparation fee for this service. At the time of our visit the fee was $18 to $28 depending on the size of the meat or fish.
Fine Food and Wines
There is also a large section where fine foods and wines are stocked. Have your pick of preserved meats at the charcuterie counter or cheese from the good selection available. These can also be served at the Bistro with a preparation fee of $6. Caviar is also available, with a service fee of $18. To wash down all that nice food, there is a vast wine section where the bottles are available for retail or to be enjoyed with your meal at the Culina COMO Dempsey Bistro. A corkage fee of $18 is charged for that.
Culina COMO Dempsey Menu
The Culina Dempsey menu is not very long, but should contain an adequate range of items to satisfy most people. In addition there is the option of hunting forfood from the market. Here is a sample page from the online menu. A full menu is available from the Culina website.
What We Ate at Culina Dempsey
We picked a piece of steak from the chiller. The 462g Great Southern Pinnacle beef ribeye from Australia was priced at $57.75. The preparation fee which includes one type of sauce was $18. We asked for it to be cooked medium well and it was prepared as we requested. The taste and texture of the meat was good and we were happy with our choice. It was big enough to be shared by two people.
The other main course that we had was the Beef Bourguignon ($38). This was also a very good dish with the beef cooked until very soft in a red wine sauce. It was served on a base of potato puree which was a great companion food with the sauce.
The steak comes on its own without any sides which have to be ordered separately. We tried the shoestring fries ($12), steamed broccolini ($12) and French onion soup ($18).
Our choice of wine for lunch at Culina COMO Dempsey was a bottle of Louis Jadot Bourgogne Pinot Noir 2019 ($64.50 + corkage fee of $18). We asked for the entry level red Burgundy to be slightly chilled and it was a pleasing wine to go with our lunch.
