Bedrock Bar & Grill is one of the top places for steak in Singapore. On Mondays, we think that it is the best steakhouse in Singapore. The reason? Good steaks and no corkage fee for BYO wine!
Best Steakhouse in Singapore on Mondays
What is the best steakhouse in Singapore is debatable. In addition to Bedrock, famous restaurants like Cut by Wolfgang Puck, Wolfgang’s Steakhouse, Bistecca , Gordon Grill and Morton’s The Steakhouse are some that come to mind. Wine prices at restaurants can easily exceed the price of the steaks! So when it comes to dining out on a Monday, the answer for us is clear – the no corkage BYO policy allows us to enjoy the steak with a familiar bottle that we bring from home.
Bedrock No Corkage on Mondays T & Cs
Here are the terms and conditions of Bedrock’s corkage free Mondays (quoted from website):
- Offer is applicable up to the first 4 bottles of wine or champagne in 750ml.
- Subsequent bottles are subject to $50++ each.
- Not valid in conjunction with other promotions and discounts.
- Offer is not applicable on special occasions such as Valentine’s Day.
Bedrock Bar & Grill at 313 Somerset
The Bedrock Grill is located on the ground level of Pan Pacific Serviced Suites Orchard, Somerset Road. From Orchard Road, it is best to use the entrance that opens up into 313 Somerset shopping mall. It has the classic steakhouse decor. Dark, broody atmosphere with heavy wooden furniture. The meat chiller showing meats undergoing aging is the first thing that will surely catch the eye as one enters the restaurant.
Diners pass by a well-lit food preparation area before being seated at the end of the passage where the dimly lit dining area awaits.
Bedrock Bar & Grill is not a large restaurant. If dining in a small party of 2 to 4, we think the best seats are the booth seats along the sides of the restaurant.
Bedrock Bar & Grill Set Lunch Menu 2023
The menu of the restaurant is available online. At lunch time we think that the set lunch is good value for money. Here is a picture of the Bedrock set lunch menu (March 2023). We selected the two steak options for main course on the list – wood-grilled tenderloin $68++ and wood-grilled ribeye steak.
Wine of the Day: K Vintners Powerline Syrah 2018
Our wine of the day was a bottle of K Vintners Powerline Syrah 2018. It is a red wine from the Walla Walla Valley, Washington USA. It is quite an unusual wine with a bold “K” label on the bottle. You can read a description of it on the Crystal Wines website. The 2014 vintage was awarded a #2 position in the 2017 Wine Spectator’s Top 100 Wines list.
We found the K Vintners Powerline Syrah 2018 to be a good wine to bring to a steakhouse. It had strong, fruity flavours that will be a match for any steak. Just as importantly, it was ready to drink almost immediately after being opened. No need for any prolonged airing even though it is relatively young.
Our Lunch
We started our lunch with some warm flat bread served with butter and a clove of toasted garlic. This has been a tradition at Bedrock since we started going many years ago. It is a very good way to start lunch.
Our starters were fine but not exceptional. Char-grilled baby gem (picture above) is a type of small lettuce. It was grilled with a bit of char on the edges and served with bacon, parmesan cheese and tomato. The mushroom soup (pic below) had a nice earthy flavour.
The Steaks at the Best Steakhouse in Singapore on Mondays
First to arrive on the table was the ribeye. It was served very simply – on a skillet with some thick fries and thyme butter. Cooked to medium as requested, the surface of the steak had a nice sheen of brown and some charred areas. The meat itself was not very flavourful but we enjoyed it as a well executed piece of steak.
By comparison, the tenderloin was a thing of beauty. Also served on a warm skillet, the tenderloin was presented on a bed of well-grilled potato and onions. A blob of foie gras sat atop the steak. Like the ribeye, this steak was not very flavourful, but it had the help of its companions. Eating each bite of tenderloin with onions or some of the foie gras greatly enhanced its taste. This was the pricier dish at $68, but the extra $10 is worth spending.
Desserts
Desserts were simple and pleasant. We will be happy to eat both the Burnt Cheese Cake (pic above) and the Salted Caramel Lava Cake (below) any day.
The unpretentious desserts brought our lunch at Bedrock Grill to an end. The highlights of our lunch were the tenderloin, complemented by the aroma and flavours of berries from the K Vintners Powerline.
