Dim Sum at new Peony Jade @ Amara

Peony Jade @ Amara Singapore serves traditional Szechuan and Cantonese cuisines and innovative dim sum. The popular local brand formerly had outlets at Clark Quay and Keppel Club. The new opening at Amara Singapore Hotel in 2023 means patrons can enjoy Michelin Bib Gourmand award-winning delicacies at an accessible city centre location.

Peony Jade Amara

Peony Jade’s first restaurant was Peony Jade @ Clarke Quay and its second outlet at the Keppel Club became one of the most popular Chinese restaurants in Singapore. The restaurant at Keppel Club was closed due to the expiration of the club’s lease for its golf course in Bukit Chermin Road. However, loyal patrons of Peony Jade will be pleased to know that the restaurant has opened at a new location in Tanjong Pagar, on level 2 of Amara Singapore Hotel.

Peony Jade Amara

Walk into Peony Jade @ Amara Singapore and you will instantly know that it is a Chinese restaurant. There are red carpets, red curtains and red seat cushions and you will probably hear Teresa Teng’s songs playing. You can easily imagine a traditional Chinese wedding banquet being held at Peony Jade Amara.

There are small tables for dining parties of 2 to 4. Extra large tables are also available for big family meals or company dinners. Private dining areas can be created by moveable partitions. Peony Jade Amara is a versatile venue for a variety of occasions.

Dim Sum Menu of Peony Jade

Peony Jade @ Amara Singapore has an A La Carte Menu and a Dim Sum Menu.

Some of the items on the menu look too good to eat – like the Bonsai Shrimps Paste Fritter filled with Avocado Lychee, the Heritage Golden Bouillon and Signature Taro Molten Lava Buns.

The link to the online menu is at the end of this post. Pictures of the Dim Sum Menu of Peony Jade Amara are below.

Peony Jade Dim Sum

We ordered 4 items from the Dim Sum Menu of Peony Jade Amara – Steamed Crystal Vegetarian Dumplings ($7.80), Signature Pan-fried Turnip Cake ($6.80), Crisp-fried Prawns with Banana Rolls (($8.80) and Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken ($6.80).

Chinese tea was charged at $4 per person and the appetizers (comprising two cherry tomatoes) would cost $3.

Our dim sum lunch at Peony Jade was like a Goldilocks’ meal.

The first item was a bit too bland for us. The Steamed Crystal Vegetarian Dumplings looked pretty. We expected the taste to excite the palate but it did not. The filling of turnip, daikon and guava provided a slight tang and some crunchiness. However, overall we could not say that the dumplings tasted as interesting as they looked.

The Signature Pan-fried Turnip Cake had a good texture and was tasty. It was just that we found it to be a tad too salty for us.

Everything about the Crisp-fried Prawns with Banana Rolls was just right and we happily ate them all up and wished we had more. They were nicely presented with a delectable banana infused mayo sauce on the side. The sesame seeds crusted skin was light and crispy. The filling was nice. With the sauce added, it was a very delicious dim sum item.

Goldilocks only had three bowls of porridge to try but we had a fourth item of dim sum to savour. Fortunately for us, the Steamed Glutinous Rice with Chicken wrapped in lotus leaf (or lo mai kai) was very good. It had a great combination of textures and aromas. The glutinous rice was sticky and chewy, and the chicken and other ingredients – like mushrooms, Chinese sausage and salted egg yolk – added depth and complexity to the flavours of the staple dim sum item

We will return

The story of Goldilocks and the Three Bears ends with Goldilocks running away into the forest and never returning to the home of the three bears again. Notwithstanding our Goldilocks experience at Peony Jade Amara, we will certainly like to return to the new Chinese restaurant in Amara Hotel. The service is professional, attentive and friendly. Two of the four dim sum items we tried were very good. There are many other interesting dishes on the menu. We just need to pick the right ones. The new city location is easily accessible by public transport and car parking is not an issue.
