Gordon Grill at Goodwood Park Hotel stands as a venerable establishment. Long before “fine dining” even entered common discourse in Singapore, this grill room had already been serving refined fare to the colonial elite. Today, it maintains its old-world charm while offering a contemporary fine dining experience.
Gordon Grill – Goodwood Park Hotel
Housed within the grand Goodwood Park Hotel, Gordon Grill exudes an old-world charm. The interior is a blend of classic elegance and modernity. With rich wood panelling, plush armchairs, and beautiful art pieces adorning the walls, the space emanates an atmosphere of understated sophistication.
4 Course Set Dinner at Gordon Grill
We had visited Gordon Grill a while back for the Weekend Roast Lunch. We recently went back there for the Set Dinner.
Below is a picture of the Set Dinner Menu on the day we visited. The menu changes from time tot time. Check the restaurant’s website for updated menu
The Dinner Begins
Water was offered once we were seated, followed by a bread basket upon placing our orders. Each variety of bread was delicious; in fact, we quite enjoyed it and almost forgot to leave room for the numerous other dishes to follow.
Next up was the amuse bouche, a complimentary offering from the chef, which was a very good crab salad tart.
Appetizers
We tried all four appetizers available on the menu, and they were all very good. The star of the appetizers was undoubtedly the pan-seared foie gras. Rich, buttery, and perfectly complemented by the poached pear, it was a dish of sublime indulgence. The chilled angel hair pasta, with king crab, caviar, sakura ebi and truffle vinaigrette was also a standout, offering a lighter and more delicate option.
Main Courses
For the main course, we opted for the Australian beef fillet and the grilled fish. The beef was cooked to perfection, tender and full of flavour. The accompanying Périgueux sauce added a rich depth to the dish. While the fish was well-prepared, the beef was the clear winner.
Desserts
The desserts were pleasant, but not as memorable as the earlier courses. While the buttery pineapple crumble bars and dulcey chocolate mousse were both enjoyable, they didn’t quite reach the heights of the appetizers and main course. Perhaps we had already indulged in an abundance of food by that point – the law of diminishing returns in action.
Good Food and Service in Elegant Setting
Service throughout the evening was impeccable. The staff were knowledgeable, attentive, and genuinely friendly. While Gordon Grill might not boast the avant-garde plating of some of Singapore’s newer fine dining establishments, it excels in delivering consistently high-quality, generously portioned dishes in a classic setting. The set dinner menu offers excellent value for money, considering the quality of the food, the great service and the elegant setting.
