Mr & Mrs Mohgan Super Crispy Roti Prata : Still as Good as Before

Mr & Mrs Mohgan Super Crispy Roti Prata appears on many lists of best roti prata in Singapore. A light ‘kosong’ prata with a thin crispy crust is what makes them distinctive. After trying another great Singapore snack from Gina’s Vadai @ Dunman Hawker Centre, we go next door for roti prata.

Tin Yeang Restaurant

The Super Crispy Roti Prata stall is located in a coffee shop named Tin Yeang Restaurant at the junction of Joo Chiat Road and Dunman Road. We understand that the late Mr Mohgan started making roti prata since he was 12 years old. He set up his own stall named Mr Mohgan’s Super Crispy Roti Prata in 2006 at Crane Road. The current stall bearing the name of Mr and Mrs Mohgan began in 2018.

Looking back at our earlier post of a visit to this stall in 2019, it will appear that not much has changed. The layout of the stall and the signboard look similar. But the prices seem to have increased. Plain and egg prata prices in 2019 were $1 and $1.50 respectively. In 2024, the prices are $1.50 and $2 respectively. I guess with the sort of inflation we are seeing these days, this kind of price increases are not unexpected.

Still A Classic Roti Prata

According to a 2023 CNA article, the late Mr Mohgan passed away after suffering a heart attack in 2022. It was also reported that his daughter was taking over the famous stall to fulfil her father’s last wish. We believe that the transition is a successful one.

The issues of inflation and price increases were soon forgotten when our food was served. The aroma of the curry and the freshly made prata is a smell that felt like meeting an old friend we have not seen for 5 years or so.

The accompanying curry was smooth and spiced perfectly. A perfect companion for the prata.

As for the prata, we could only say it was so nice to see him again. It was as good as we remember it to be. The kosong prata on top was as light and crisp as we like it to be. The denser egg prata at the bottom of the pile was a heavier prata. Not as delightful as a plain one but has its own charm, especially for hungry diners.
