Sushiro Thomson Plaza is their 13th outlet in Singapore. Opened only about two months ago, I believe this is currently the newest Sushiro Singapore branch. We stopped by recently to try some conveyor belt sushi in Upper Thomson.
New Conveyor Belt Sushi Restaurant in Thomson Plaza
Some outlets of this popular Japanese kaiten sushi restaurant chain in Singapore can be quite crowded on weekdays. Fortunately, it was not very busy on the day of our visit on a weekday lunchtime. The seats gradually filled up over the course of lunch but there was at most a very short queue.
The new Sushiro Thomson Plaza outlet has the same familiar Sushiro layout as others in Singapore such as the Isetan Orchard outlet. Long rows of dining tables interlaced between the conveyor belts.
It is possible to make a reservation using the Sushiro App, which is advisable when dining on weekends or other peak hours. In the case of our early lunchtime visit, it was a breeze. With no queue (zero waiting time), we used the self service check in machine. Pressed the “Get Ticket” button and headed straight to the table number assigned to us. Our assigned table, Table 44, greeted us with a Welcome message. We would soon be ordering on the iPad.
A nearby drinks station with self service hot and cold water dispensers provided complementary water to thirsty diners.
Sushiro Thomson Plaza Menu
Here are pictures of the Sushiro Thomson Plaza sushi menu. The prices correspond to the colours of the plates on which the sushi are served. There are other menus for types of non-sushi food with different pricing methods.
Most of our food that day was ordered via the iPad screen. Here are some pages from the Sushiro online menu from which we had ordered some of our dishes.
Lunch at Sushiro Thomson Plaza
I cannot remember all the items we tried that day. Here are the more memorable ones. The shrimp tempura udon ($6.30) is one of our favourite items at Sushiro, especially when hungry. Having the small portion of udon was enough to inject some self-restraint against over-ordering with a growling tummy. The other items in this photo were ok. The Jack Mackerel ($2.30) was quite fishy.
The tuna sushi we tried that day were quite average, but the scallop sushi items were all good.
It seems that on this visit to Sushiro Thomson Plaza, it was the tempura items that were most memorable. Both the shrimp tempura sushi ($2.90) and the sweet potato tempura ($2.80) scored high points with us. The sweetness of the latter enabled it to perform the role of a dessert, making it the last dish of our lunch.
At the end of our meal, a member of the service staff counted the plates and tallied our bill which was printed out on the handheld scanner and printer. Payment was made quickly at the self service payment station.
Overall, our visit to the new Sushiro outlet at Thomson Plaza was a pleasant one.
