Hapiha Mediterranean Taverna is a cosy restaurant in the row of shops and restaurants at Ridgewood Condominium in the Mount Sinai / Holland Road residential area. It is also the first eatery that we encounter as we enter this separately cloistered part of the condo development which is open to the public.
Mediterranean Restaurant at Ridgewood Condo
Helmed by a native Albanian chef who had worked at famous Italian restaurants in Singapore such as Ristorante Da Valentino (which closed in 2023) and Basilico in Conrad Singapore Hotel (formerly named Regent Hotel), Hapiha Mediterranean Tavern has a welcoming bistro atmosphere. The small restaurant has a capacity of about 25 diners, which seems like a suitable venue for small private events. Residents of the Ridgewood Condominium get direct access to the restaurants via a secured gate. Outsiders such as ourselves can enter from a public gate that opens out to Ridgewood Close.

This being our first visit to this restaurant, we had a conservative meal, ordering just a few of the more familiar items.
What We Ate at Hapiha
Sardine Fritte ($17.90) was a serving of crispy fried sardines from the Mediterranean sea. These had been deboned, but a number of fine bones remained as could be expected of sardines. Those bothered by these should look elsewhere. Otherwise it is a nice dish as a starter or as a snack to eat with drinks. The sardines tasted good enough with a squeeze of lemon, but even better with the yogurt dip that came with the meat platter.
Ordering the meat platter was an easy option – to try out bite sized versions of various items on the menu. Our Meat Platter for 2 ($49.90) had small portions of Lamb Kofta, Beef Cevapi, Chicken Souvlaki, Pork Souvlaki, and Mediterranean Chicken Lemon Wings, served with Pita Bread and crispy French-fries. Some yogurt dip (Tzatziki) was also provided. Each item was generally fine but it was hard to make any firm conclusions with just bite sized samplings. We should however say that the dip was very good and enhanced the flavour of every item on the plate and even the sardines.
So good was the dip that we ran out of it very quickly. To remedy the situation, we added an order of hummus dip, said to be made with chickpeas spread blended with tahini, extra virgin olive oil, fresh lemon juice, cumin & garlic. This was also very good and the perfect companion for the pita bread.
Overall, dining at Hapiha Mediterranean Tavern on a weekday was a pleasant experience. It has the things that we like about neighbourhood restaurants – a quiet and laid back ambience, friendly service and nice food. On weekends however, we believe that this can be a popular place, so it’s best to make a reservation via the link on the restaurant website. The restaurant is a few doors away from the Pizzaface restaurant that we wrote about some time back.
