Ginkyō by Kinki is a new Japanese restaurant at One Holland Village. It is a beautiful restaurant. In fact we think it is the nicest of all the places we have visited at this new mall at Holland Village. We also found out that the food was quite good as well.
New Japanese Bistro at Holland V
According to its website, Ginkyō by Kinki is “… a modern, chic Japanese bistro that surprises your palate with authentic elements combined with contemporary twists, creative techniques, and unique ingredients around the world.” It is an offshoot of the popular Kinki Restaurant & Bar at Collyer Quay, Singapore.
With its location on level 3, the restaurant is away from the crowds that throng the shops and cafes on the lower floors. It also makes good use of the big windows on three sides using them to light up the space and showing off its very attractive decor.
Ginkyō by Kinki Menu
Here are pictures of some parts of the Ginkyō (pronounced as ‘Geen-keo’) by Kinki menu. The full menu is available on the restaurant website (link at the end of this post).
A weekday set lunch is also available with prices ranging from $28 to $68.
Additional food suggestions appeared by way of small cards placed at the table. We were tempted by these and ordered a few sushi items and a Tori Miso donburi bowl ($22).
Ginkyō Sushi
The sushi at Ginkyō by Kinki was very good, better than we had expected and comparable to any served at the better Japanese restaurants in Singapore. Our hamachi (yellowtail tuna, $12) and hotate (scallop, $10) were fresh and juicy. These are the items we will order again on a next visit.
Okonomi-Rosti
From the main course section of the menu, we decided to try the Okonomi-Rosti ($32). We thought we would relive our memories of Osaka with this okonomiyaki dish. But this rosti hybrid was quite different. This version had a shredded potato base and not a high amount of seafood. The bonito flakes provided most of the taste. It was also quite a large dish, better to be shared among more people.
Ginkyō by Kinki Set Lunch
Our grilled miso chicken donburi set lunch was served with a small salad, miso soup and a piece of mochi as dessert.
The grilled chicken was quite plain and we would have liked it better if it had stronger flavours. Of course, the soft onsen egg was a welcome addition.
