If you like exploring cafes off the beaten path, Apricus Coffee & Food Co is worth a visit. Located in a row of old shophouses in Jalan Kayu, this café brings a touch of trendy café culture to the neighbourhood which is perhaps most well known for its roti prata.

The co-owner of Apricus is also the co-owner of The Populus Coffee & Food Co. in Tanjong Pagar. So, you can expect similarities in the menu and ambience.
Walking into Apricus, you are greeted by the cosy yet trendy vibes typical of modern cafés in Singapore. The long, narrow layout of the shophouse has been maximised to create an inviting space. The skylight towards the rear lets in plenty of natural sunlight. There is also a large rustic outdoor seating area in front.
Menu of Apricus Coffee
Apricus Coffee & Food Co’s menu offers the usual café and brunch favourites. The Popolus Scramble Egg is on the menu. You will also find Roasted Cauliflower Steak, Chilli Crab Pasta, Pulled Lamb Sanger Burger as well as Waffles and Cakes. Below are a few screenshots of the digital menu.
Lunch at Apricus
During our visit, we ordered three main dishes – Apricus Chicken Stew ($22), Fish & Chips ($24) and Halibut & Leek ($25) – as well as coffee and a pot of tea.
Apricus’s take on Chicken Stew is a creamy, tomato-based curry which is mildly spicy. Reminiscent of local curry fish head, the dish is served with pan-seared chicken confit, which was tender and juicy.
This classic Fish & Chips had a light and crispy tempura batter encasing fresh tasting halibut. There was a good balance of texture. Served with tartar sauce, fries and salad, it was a nice complete meal.
A healthier option, the Halibut & Leek dish featured roasted halibut with sautéed leeks and creamy mashed potato. The fish was flaky and tender, while the leeks added a subtle sweetness. It was a well-rounded, satisfying dish.
Coffee & Tea at Apricus
As the name suggests, Apricus takes pride in its coffee. The baristas craft excellent artisanal coffee, perfect for those who appreciate a good brew. For non-coffee drinkers, Apricus offers a good selection of teas.
Our white coffee ($6) was not as hot as we would have liked, but it was smooth and had a rich, inviting aroma. The Lychee Oolong ($7) we ordered was fragrant and very refreshing.
Enjoyable Café Experience
While Jalan Kayu may not be the most common destination for cafehoppers, Apricus Coffee & Food Co shows that enjoyable café experiences can be found beyond the usual spots in Singapore. With its charming atmosphere, thoughtfully designed menu, and high-quality beverages, Apricus café in Jalan Kayu is definitely worth a visit.
