Capitol Bistro. Bar. Patisserie: Calm Oasis at Kempinski Hotel Singapore

Capitol Bistro. Bar. Patisserie at Capitol Kempinski Hotel is a new dining destination at the Arcade zone of the hotel. With a direct underground connection to the City Hall MRT, this is a quiet place to go for lunch to escape the crowds at Raffles City.

New Restaurant at Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski

In addition to Holy Crab which we visited and wrote about recently, there are other new f & b outlets at the Arcade @ The Capitol Kempinski: The Masses (a Franco-Asian restaurant) and the Capitol (Bistro. Bar. Patisserie). We were won over by the airy ambience of the latter and decided to lunch there.

Capitol (Bistro. Bar. Patisserie) has a welcoming decor which is described on its website as “a modern, tropical-inspired interior amidst an inviting semi-alfresco setting”. The Bistro is a smart casual restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. An all-day dining menu is also available. The Bar is open all day, serving cocktails, mocktails and specialty beverages. The Patisserie is the place to go to for freshly made pastries and desserts.

The restaurant is large and spacious. It is an open space, but air-conditioned and encased under a glass roof. It is alfresco dining without the nuisance of insects and with the comfort of A/C. We can’t think of a better place to have an “outdoor dining” experience in the Singapore CBD.

Capitol Bistro. Bar. Patisserie Set Lunch

Capitol Bistro Menu

Here are pictures of some sections of the Capitol Bistro menu. A two course set lunch was available. Costing $28++ including coffee, that seemed like something worth trying. We also selected an item from the a la carte menu – cod fish and chips ($30++).

Set Lunch at Capitol Bistro

Our lunch started with a welcome drink and slice of bread. Both were XS sizes, but tasted quite nice.

For starters we chose the vine tomato bruschetta with prosciutto di Parma ham. This was a good savoury starter and was of a decent portion size.

Our choice of main course for the set lunch at Capitol Bistro was braised Black Angus beef cheek. It was back to XXS sizing for this dish. To be fair, the taste was very good. The beef was cooked till very soft and the gravy was thick and rich. This would be the place to go for lunch without the fear of over-eating.

Cod Fish and Chips

It is quite rare to see cod fish used for fish and chips these days. And so we thought we should try this item from the a la carte menu. The plate was mostly filled up by the French fries which were well executed – evenly cooked. moist inside and a thin crisp crust outside. The two pieces of fish were not big but satisfactory. What it may have lacked in quantity was made up by its quality. The fish was very fresh and had a clean cod fish flavour.

Coffee was part of the set meal. We also ordered a slice of cake from the Patisserie. This is a very pleasant place to have cake and tea or coffee.
