Fish & Chips and Tonkatsu
We visited Tachibana on a recent weekday evening. As we were the first guests of the evening, the friendly Japanese staff gave us their full attention. We ordered the Mehikari Fish & Chips ($13.80) from the Seafood Fair Menu and the Tonkatsu Set ($17.80) from the Dinner Set Menu.

The Mehikari Fish & Chips is a Japanese version of the traditional British staple. Mehikari, also known as the Japanese Icefish, is a small, deep-water fish.
The Mehikari was served in multiple small pieces with light, thin batter. The fish had slightly sweet, delicate flesh. Each piece was light and crispy – easy to enjoy..

The Tonkatsu Set came with potato salad, a bowl of miso soup with lots of ingredients and a rather large bowl of white rice. A crispy, golden-brown deep-fried pork cutlet was served with a side of shredded cabbage. The exterior of the pork cutlet was crunchy and not greasy. The panko breadcrumbs coating was fresh and light. The meat inside was tender. The portion size was quite generous. Overall a very satisfying meal.
