We enjoy visiting Scotts Square. The mall is easily accessible and has a spacious layout and a premium atmosphere. However, many F&B outlets struggle to maintain long-term operations there. Paradise Teochew stands out as a notable exception, having been at Scotts Square for years. Perhaps, it is a reflection of its consistency in food, service and setting.

Paradise Teochew Scotts Square

We visited Paradise Teochew Scotts Square on a recent weekend. The restaurant has an elegant interior design. The interior uses warm wood tones and soft lighting. There are several private dining rooms. These rooms take up space, so the main dining hall is compact. But it is well laid out. Large tables suit family meals and group gatherings. Smaller tables fit two to four diners. The tableware feels a step above the usual dim sum spot.

Paradise Teochew Dim Sum Menu
Paradise Teochew offers a comprehensive menu covering typical Chinese restaurant sections. The dim sum selection provides good variety. It includes both steamed and fried items, some with specific Teochew characteristics.
Teochew cuisine comes from the Chaozhou region in eastern Guangdong, China. We were told that unlike Cantonese dim sum, which would often use bold seasonings and rich sauces, Teochew dim sum would emphasise lighter, more delicate flavours. It would tend to be less oily and less sweet. The main goal would be to preserve the natural taste of ingredients.

Dim Sum at Paradise Teochew
We ordered four dishes for a quick dim sum lunch. Tea was charged at $3.50 per person. As is typical in dim sum restaurants in Singapore, chargeable appetizers were served, though you could decline them.


The Steamed Rice Roll in Sesame Sauce ($8.30) was simple but delicious. The rice roll was soft without being too fragile. It had a slightly chewy texture – more like Korean tteokbokki than the usual chee cheong fun. It had no filling, just a light, tasty sesame sauce drizzled generously over the top. The sauce added flavour without being too strong, like a good, simple spaghetti sauce would.

Teochew-style Steamed Glutinous Rice Roll ($8.30) was a signature dish. It was a variation of the typical Teochew png kueh. The outer layer was a soft bao-like dough. The inside was filled with savoury glutinous rice and peanuts. The consistency was just right, tender but not too soft or too sticky. The flavours were mild but tasty, making it simple yet satisfying

The Deep Fried Prawn & Mango in Salad Sauce Roll ($10.80) had a crisp, golden-brown outside and a moist, tasty filling. It was a good version of a dim sum item we would order often.

The Crisp-Fried Eggplant tossed with Pork Floss ($16.80) was one of the higher-priced items on the dim sum menu. The eggplant was crisp on the outside while remaining creamy on the inside. The pork floss provided a nice textural contrast. The dish was not oily. It was very palatable.
Good food, setting and service


The staff were attentive without being intrusive. Empty plates were cleared promptly, and tea was refilled without needing to be asked. The overall cost was not low. Our simple dim sum lunch for two came to just under $60. But we liked the food, the setting and the service. We will be more than happy to dine at Paradise Teochew again, as we have many times before.
