Oku Restaurant was where we had dinner in the Gion District of Kyoto Japan earlier this year. Gion is one of the most atmospheric places in Kyoto, especially at night. The old wooden houses and narrow alleys make it seem like a scene out of an old TV series Samurai Shintaro. We could imagine ninjas running on the roofs of these low buildings.
Located in the basement of Tangs department store, this compact food court is a hidden gem for those hunting for affordable food in Orchard Road. Tangs Market is clean and comfortable and has stalls offering a good representative sample of Malaysian and Singaporean hawker food.
Dinner by Heston Blumenthal is a two Michelin Star restaurant in Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park Hotel, London. This restaurant by famous chef Heston Blumenthal is also a regular entry in S. Pellegrino World’s 50 Best Restaurants Awards. We had a taste of some of Heston Blumenthal’s creations in Singapore when his Hind’s Head gastropub made a pop-up appearance at the Singapore 2019 F1 Paddock Club. On our recent trip to England, we decided to have lunch at Dinner.
Miraku 味楽 is a new sushi restaurant in China Square Central near Raffles Place and Shenton Way. Like many good sushi places, it is small, intimate and with limited seats around a counter. The only problem with these types of restaurants is that they tend to serve only expensive omakase meals. New sushi restaurant Miraku tempted us through the door with an amazing value 13 course sushi lunch priced at $38++.
