Other than PS Cafe, our other familiar favourite in the Dempsey zone is the Culina Bistro. We are not sure what it is, but maybe its the combination of the reliable cooking standards and the feeling of being surrounded by the attractive foods and wines that keep us coming back.
Each of us just had a main course today. The poached ocean trout ($32) was fresh and perfectly done. The yogurt sauce did its job of enhancing the taste of the dish without masking the natural flavours of the fish.
The roast lamb rack with wine sauce ($32) won our award for best dish of the day. The meat was plump and juicy with a nice combination of the grassy, gamey taste of lamb. Maybe this is another thing that will make us return. The red wine sauce was light and with the right amount of meatiness.
One interesting experience when dining at Culina is the option of going over to the retail section to select your own cut of meat and have the kitchen cook it for you at a reasonable preparation charge of $15. This is carnivore heaven as the meat selection is wide, with different types and cut of meat. We selected a ribeye steak which, including the cooking fee, cost us about $40. As expected, the meat was done exactly as we wanted it.
Culina is such a reliable place to go to, with very high consistent standards. The staff are also attentive and helpful. It is no wonder that there is a constant stream of customers coming here, even at odd hours of the day.
