Craftsmen Specialty Coffee

Craftsmen Specialty Coffee is a cafe in Siglap V that sells coffee and beer as well as ice cream, cakes, waffles and other small bites. They also retail packs of coffee beans, brewing equipment and accessories like syphon and filters.

It is another cafe with the “industrial look” – exposed ceilings, bare concrete floor, “semi-finished” walls and the now ubiquitous “Edison” filament light bulbs. It is getting difficult to tell one trendy cafe from another by the interiors. The distinguishing features in Craftsmen Specialty Coffee are the coffee drip tower prominently placed on the main long table and the display of a variety of craftsbeer and cider.

The menu offers the usual hot and cold coffee plus special brews from the Brew Bar – V-60, Chemex, Siphon, Woodneck and French Press. Prices range from $3.50 (Espresso) to $8 (Siphon). There is a Baby Cino at $2 for kids.

Cakes are priced at $7.50 to $9.50 per slice. There are really good looking cakes like Rainbow crepe cake, Japanese strawberry shortcake and Pandan gula melaka pavlova. They also have quiche ($9), pies ($8.90) and sandwiches ($15).

We were a little disappointed by the service. Perhaps the person assisting us was new. His handling of the food and inability to answer fairly basic questions about the coffee they were serving would suggest that he might not have being trained for the job. The oreo rainbow cake we ordered arrived in less than picture perfect condition. The cake tasted quite good though.

We had their house blend flat white and latte. They had a balanced taste, with a hint of sweetness and citrus fruit.

There is a car park in the basement of Siglap V. Car parks are also available in the adjacent buildings.

Craftsmen Specialty Coffee with its bright and spacious interior is a good option when we need a relaxing coffee break. It is one of the best places to have a good cup of special brew coffee. For cakes and food, there are probably better options around the area. We must say that their Belgium waffles with salted caramel ice cream looks very tempting; and we may just go back there to try that.
