Lunch at Yayoiken, a Japanese restaurant at Star Vista

Yayoi-47

We had lunch at Yayoiken, a relatively new tenant at Star Vista. It occupies quite a large space on the second level. It is very popular with the office crowd at lunchtime and queues forming up at the entrance is not uncommon.

We liked the big glossy menus with full technicolored photos of the dishes. Ordering is done by way of a wall-mounted iPad by which you can also see the status of each item, call for service and have the bill prepared. The menu has a very wide selection of dishes and many looked interesting.  We ordered three types of set meals and some gyozas.

The gyozas ($4.90) were good. They had features which some people may like to have – just enough meat and smooth supple skin that is lightly tanned (fried in our case). The Hamburg Steak Combo ($19.90) was one of the pricier items on the menu. It had two hamburger patties, sausages, tofu and bean sprouts. Quite oily and heavy but very tasty and quite quickly devoured by a young growing patron. The Saba Shio set ($9.90) won the best deal of the day award. The saba fish came in a generous portion and was very nicely cooked. The Miso Katsu set won the Miss Photogenic award. This must be the most beautifully presented fried pork we have seen and it also tasted good. What impressed us was the fact that the actual dishes looked as good as the pictures in the glossy menu, so we can’t resist posting a few more random pictures for your enjoyment.
