Patara Thai @ Tanglin Mall is a Thai restaurant in Singapore that has been in this mall at one end of Orchard Road for as long as we can remember. After all these years, it still looks classy and elegant. We had dinner there recently.
The Patara Thai Restaurant is a spacious restaurant which looks inviting the moment you enter. Its tables are spread out and we like having dinner without overhearing the conversations from the next table. As you can expect, the restaurant serves classic Thai dishes. Here are some pages from their menu.
We started our dinner with some Twice Cooked Chicken Wings ($19). $19 is quite a lot of money to pay for some humble chicken wings, but they were quite exceptional. The secret is the five-spice and vinegar flavour that the wings are coated with. Very tasty and a good finger food item to go with the Erdinger beer that we ordered ($16).
Our next dish was fried bean curd ($19). Simple pieces of tofu with tamarind sauce, but like the chicken wings, the flavour of the sauce made it memorable. This was a large portion and could be adequately shared among four people.
The next two dishes were the beef green curry ($26) and stir fried aubergine with basil. The beef curry was good but not any different from that served in good Thai restaurants. We liked the aubergines were creamy in texture and the basil flavoured gravy made it a distinctly Thai dish.
The dessert section of the menu also looked interesting but there was no room for that on that day. It was a classic Thai meal. No exotic dishes but the balance of flavours was what made ordinary items like chicken wings and tofu stand out. Patara Thai @ Tanglin Mall is on the slightly expensive end of Thai restaurants in Singapore. But we think the nice ambience of the space and taste of the dishes are worth paying for.
