Beach Road Kitchen is the new all day dining restaurant of JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach. The not so old South Beach Hotel has a new operator and has been re-branded as JW Marriott Hotel Singapore South Beach. One of the things the new hotel operator has done is to relocate the hotel’s all day dining restaurant, formerly known as ADHD, to a larger space and give it a new name – Beach Road Kitchen. The move is probably a practical and sensible one from the business perspective. However, we found the new Beach Road Kitchen nice but rather unexciting.
We really liked ADHD (read our old post on ADHD Restaurant) and we checked out the Beach Road Kitchen with rather high expectations. Beach Road Kitchen is located on Level 1 of the South Beach complex in a separate block from the hotel rooms. It has a modern elegant decor but the new look did not evoke any strong emotional response.
Buffet
Beach Road Kitchen is designed to be a hotel buffet restaurant. It has live kitchens and plenty of counter space for the buffet spread. Currently, the buffet prices are $42++ for breakfast, $58++ for lunch and $78++ for dinner.
Menu
As expected, Beach Road Kitchen a la carte menu offers the usual international and local selections. The prices are also as high as you would expect to find in an eatery of an upscale hotel. Chicken rice would cost $34 and coffee $10. Here are pictures of a few pages of Beach Road Kitchen menu.
Lunch
We visited Beach Road Kitchen for a quick lunch and ordered a South Beach Club Sandwich ($28) and Soto Ayam ($18). The usual service charge and GST would be added to the bill. Generally, the service was professional and courteous.
Prawn Crackers with chilli were served while we waited for our food. The food arrived after a wait of about 15 minutes.
The South Beach Club Sandwich was presented on a cutting board with fries. The portion was quite substantial. The sourdough bread was nicely toasted and the layers of roast chicken, sambal egg, lettuce, tomato and bacon combined well. It was a good club sandwich.
The Soto Ayam did not look very interesting and the portion was rather small. The Indonesian dish of bee hoon with shredded chicken in a slightly spicy broth was rather ordinary. It was not bad but just did not titillate any of the senses.
Overall
Beach Road Kitchen is well appointed and elegant. The huge all-day dining restaurant has inviting buffet spreads and a varied menu. The food we tried was not bad and the service standard was very good. However, the place just did not set our pulse racing in any way. It is probably a good place to have a meal if you want to give your full attention to your dining partner – there is not much at Beach Road Kitchen to distract you; except maybe worrying about the hefty bill.
