Cheap Breakfast at the Colony, Ritz Carlton Singapore

The words “cheap” and “Ritz Carlton” are seldom used in the same sentence. But today we will share with you our $10 cheap breakfast at the Colony restaurant of Ritz Carlton Singapore.

The Colony at Ritz Carlton is famous for their sumptuous buffets. Their regular breakfast buffet costs $45++, lunch is $58++ on weekdays and Sunday brunch costs $138.  These prices are out of reach of ordinary patrons who just want a quick simple breakfast.

Thank goodness there is a budget breakfast area at the Colony restaurant. It is just outside the main restaurant. The seating is on high tables and bar-counter stools.  Not as comfortable as the main area, but the ambience is similar and the service was no less 5-star. The only trade-off is the use of disposable cups and cutlery.

Here is a picture of the coffee and breakfast menu at this Colony coffee corner. Cappuccino costs $5. A light breakfast of coffee/juice and a pastry costs $10 or less. There are cheaper places for breakfast, but we doubt there are many 5-star locations serving breakfast at this price. In fact many ‘lesser’ places charge more for coffee these days.

We had some coffees and pastry from the selection laid out in the display. I cannot remember what pastry it was. The taste was not bad but unremarkable. But then anything eaten in the hallowed halls of the Ritz tastes two rungs better than they really are. Average food will taste good. Good food becomes wonderful.  So we can say that our cheap breakfast that day was very good.

Should you be in the vicinity of the Ritz Carlton in the morning, we can’t think of a better place than Colony which will serve you a light breakfast for $10 in such pleasant environment.  Should you be here in the evening, there is a different reason to drop by as some of the breads and pastries are sold off at heavily discounted prices after a certain time (we think it is 9 pm – but please check).
