A good day and place to have a steak meal is on a Monday at Bedrock Bar and Grill at the Pan Pacific Serviced Suites. The restaurant is located on the ground floor, right next to the 313 Somerset shopping mall along Orchard Road. A good steak meal will not be complete without a nice bottle of red wine. On Mondays, no corkage fee is charged at Bedrock Grill, making this an attractive BYO restaurant in the Orchard Road area. Red meat and wine is a good combination to beat the Monday blues.
Bedrock Bar and Grill has an outdoor seating area along the covered pedestrian mall that links the three malls – Orchard Central, 313 Somerset and Orchard Gateway. There are some outdoor tables that are good for people watching. The air-conditioned internal space is more comfortable and attractive. Furnished with dark wood panels and leather furniture, Bedrock Grill has the serious and masculine atmosphere of a traditional steakhouse.
Bedrock Bar and Grill Menu
It is clear that the main focus of Bedrock Bar and Grill is their steaks. There are some seafood and chicken items for those who prefer something else. On weekdays, they serve a three course set lunch at $38 and $58 (for the steak main course options). Here are pictures of the Bedrock Bar and Grill menu, set lunch menu and a couple of pages from the wine list.
We placed our order for the wood fired ribeye steak and the NY Steak. Freshly baked bread was served soon after. Butter and roasted garlic was provided. It has been some time since we get served fresh garlic with bread. A very good start to the meal.
We had brought along a bottle of 2011 Chateau Clinet. The wine service at Bedrock Bar and Grill was top-notch. It was a joy to see the bottle handled so expertly. A wine aerator was used in the process of decanting. We do not know whether the aerator was really effective or because 2011 was a soft Bordeaux year anyway, the wine was drinkable very quickly.
For starters we selected the House Cured Salmon and the Classic Lobster Bisque. The salmon was a refreshing plate of salad with chunks of salmon and topped with fish eggs. The bisque was a plain-looking soup but the taste was very rich and intense.
We were told the ribeye steak was about 200g. It looks big because it was quite thin. It was a good thing that we had asked for the steak to be done medium rare, as it turned out to be medium +. It had very good flavours.
The NY steak was a piece of 250g striploin. This was a thicker piece of steak. This had an even better meat flavour. It was also completely edible, in contrast to the ribeye, which had the usual fatty bits. We can safely say that we are happy to have these steaks any day. The NY steak was a marginally better choice.
Our desserts were the chocolate profiteroles and ice cream of the day. In this instance, the profiteroles were the clear winner.
Lunchtime at Bedrock Bar and Grill was quiet. There were two other parties while we where there. The restaurant was nicer than we had expected as we had only seen it from the outside. What made it even better were the service staff. Professional and friendly, they made the whole dining experience a very pleasant one.
