Wine Universe Millenia Walk Singapore – restaurant, a wine bar and retail-cellar.

Wine Universe Millenia Walk Singapore is a restaurant, wine bar and retail-cellar. According to their website, it is a joint venture by a Swiss vintner, Dominique Giroud and Swiss owner, Claude Dizerens. Dominique is also the man behind Wine Universe, a leading wine retailer and brokerage in Switzerland. The Swiss heritage is also discernible from the Swiss items on the food menu and wine list.

Wine Universe Millenia Walk is located in a unit which faces outwards. It is on the street level and directly opposite the Conrad Centennial Hotel lobby entrance.

Wine Universe Millenia Walk Menu

The menu of Wine Universe Millenia Walk Singapore contains a wide range of international cuisine, but the Swiss Inspirations section takes centre stage. Here are pictures of portions from the Wine Universe Menu as well as the Sunday Brunch menu.

The Wine Universe wine menu similarly highlights the Swiss products although wines from other parts of the world are also represented. Here are pictures of some pages from the menu.

Our first impressions at Wine Universe Millenia Walk was positive. We were made to feel comfortable in the restaurant and some bread was served. They were warm, which is always a nice gesture.

Raclette

We tried a couple of Swiss food items – Raclette cheese ($13 for a single portion) and Matterhorn Rosti ($23). We were hoping that they would slice the Raclette in front of us, but that was not the case. The cheese had a strong smell, but the taste was more muted. The pickles help to balance out the taste. Eaten together with the pickles and potato, the Raclette was quite enjoyable.

The Matterhorn Rosti (below) was an average tasting rosti dish, which was surprising as it is one of the items in the “Swiss Inspirations” part of the menu.

To balance the other heavy dishes, we had an Alpes Salad ($23). It was a huge portion of salad.  It was made interesting by the presence of bits of cheese, bacon and thinly sliced dried beef.

The Swiss burger ($28) was no different from the regular burgers which we are used to. It was perhaps larger than usual.

Overall, the Wine Universe Millenia Walk is an interesting restaurant. The items on the menu range from the Swiss specials like fondue to Asian items like spring rolls and satay. We did not try their Swiss wine that day. Perhaps that was why it felt like something was missing even though we had a big spread of food.
