麥士威83号 Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup at Telok Blangah Crescent used to be at Maxwell Road Food Centre. It must have built up a new fan base or loyal customers from Maxwell Road have followed them all the way to Teluk Blanga (which in Malay means “cooking pot bay”). On a Saturday morning, 麥士威83号 Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup is one of the few stalls in Telok Blangah Crescent Market & Food Centre with long queues.
Telok Blangah Crescent Market & Food Centre
Telok Blangah Crescent Market & Food Centre is located just opposite SAFRA Mount Faber. The Food Centre, with colourful ventilation panels, is at the end of the extravagantly named Crescent Mall. It is quite popular with those visiting the SAFRA clubhouse and those taking walks in the lush hilly parks of Mount Faber and Telok Blangah Hill.
Hai Kee Char Kway Teow and Fei Lou Porridge are well known stalls in the food centre. A little under the radar but gaining in popularity is 麥士威83号 Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup at stall #01-119.
麥士威83号 Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup
My eating companions had higher calling so I headed alone to Telok Blangah Crescent for the very humdrum Singaporean activity of eating in a food centre. 麥士威83号 Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup sells minced meat noodles, fish ball noodles and soups of various combinations of meat balls, sotong balls and fish balls. The soup bowls come with noodles, mee sua or rice. Lightbox signages show clearly what they offer and you can order by just stating the relevant number.
The stall is run by 3 ladies. One takes the order and assembles the ingredients for each order. The second does the cooking. The third prepares the tray – with bowl, utensils and chilli – and adds the garnishing when the cooked ingredients are placed into the bowl.
The production line system is quite efficient. However, as each bowl of soup or noodles is cooked to order individually, the wait can be quite long. I stood in line for about 10 minutes before I reached the front to place my order. I ordered the 麥士威83号 No.8 – described as the Fish Maw Mixed with Mee Sua Set ($4.80). It was about another 15 minutes or so before my order was ready for collection.
Mixed Soup with Mee Sua
The bowl of soup had fish maw, a squid ball, a meat ball, a fish ball, a piece of dumpling, a slice of lean meat, slices of fish cake and vegetables. The light clear soup was simple but had a nice flavour and was enjoyable – like homemade soup.
The squid ball and pork ball were quite large. They were well cooked and both had very nice chewy texture. The pork ball was a bit more salty and flavourful compared to the squid ball. The fish ball was smooth and bouncy.
The dried mee sua was very good. I had expected the mee sua to be soft and even a little soggy. However, it had quite a good firm bite with a delightful taste. I liked the dry mee sua better than the usual mee kia. The tangy sambal chilli was a tad spicy but very good. There was a fairly generous helping of bean sprouts which added some crunchiness to the bowl of mee sua.
One the whole, I thought the Fish Maw Mixed with Mee Sua of Teochew Hand Made Squid Ball, Pork Ball, Mixed Soup Stall was a simple but very enjoyable meal. Individually cooked to order with fresh ingredients, delicious and affordably priced – a true example of good hawker food in Singapore.

Looks like a similar stall at maxwell hawker. Or did they move over?
Yes, believed it is the Maxwell Road Food Centre stall which moved to Telok Blangah Crescent.
