Buffets are extremely popular in Singapore but a buffet dinner in a nice hotel restaurant can really stretch our pants and shrink our wallets. The restaurants of hotels in a prime location like Orchard Road would typically charge $70 and more for weekday buffet dinner. A premium would be added on for Friday and Saturday nights. We are thus happy to discover that the Dinner Buffet at Makan@Jen is affordably priced at $42++ from Sunday to Thursday. On Fridays and Saturdays, Makan@Jen currently has a seafood dinner buffet priced at $65++.

International Fusion Buffet
We went to Makan@Jen at Hotel Jen OrchardGateway on a weekday for dinner. The International Fusion Buffet ($42++) offers a wide range of European, Japanese as well as local delights.
The food was well laid out and there were the usual make-your-own salad station and fresh seafood and Japanese food counters.
The grilled meats and roasts were popular. There were Chinese style roasted pork and duck, Korean bulgogi beef as well as Westen style roasted beef and ham.
Local food selections included wanton noodles cook to order and Peranakan and Indian dishes.
There were Laksa Fried Rice as well as Spanish paella.
Desserts
The highlights of most buffets are desserts and Makan@Jen will not disappoint. Their dessert stations are attractive.
There was a wide variety of cakes, pastries and kuehs. You can make your own ice-kachang and also choose from many different flavours of ice cream.
Drinks
Water was served as soon as we were seated and our glasses were regularly topped up. The buffet included free flow of coffee as well as hot tea and iced tea.
What We Like
The food was generally of good quality. We liked the fresh seafood. The entrees were not particularly exciting or exceptionally tasty. The desserts were almost all very delicious and enjoyable. We liked the excellent and friendly service and we liked the affordable price.
