Prive Grill University Club – restaurant in NUS Kent Ridge Campus

The Prive empire is well spread out in Singapore. They have restaurants in several locations, including this one in the NUS Kent Ridge Campus – the Prive Grill University Club. Despite its name, it is open to the public, although we suspect their main patrons are the staff and students of the National University of Singapore. It is situated on the 4th level in a building next to the NUS Guild House in Kent Ridge. It is not the most visible of places to the casual passerby.

There is a patio area which looks out at the sea off West Coast. The restaurant had recently undergone some renovations and a name change. It used to be known as The University Club. The Prive Grill which used to be at Keppel Bay has been converted into a new seafood restaurant, the Bayswater Kitchen. I guess it makes sense to keep the name going with the Prive Grill University Club.

Prive Grill University Club Menu

Here are pictures from the Prive Grill University Club dinner menu and a page of the drinks menu. Diners can opt for a two or three course set dinner ($42 and $48 respectively) or order items a la carte.  The menu is described as set dinners with a French flair. We decided to order specific items to be shared as we were not very hungry.

An amuse bouche was served. I cannot remember what it was, just that it was quite good.

The lobster bisque ($17) was served in a generous portion. It was enough for two persons. The seafood taste was deep. We thought this was a good lobster bisque.

The ribeye steak ($33) arrived with the plate full. Most of the space was taken up by the large amounts of fries and a healthy portion of salad. The steak itself was quite small. But that was fine with us as it was adequate. We opted for the Prive steak sauce.  The taste of the steak was decent but not exceptional.

For dessert we tried the chocolate lava cake ($14).  I am not a baker but I am pretty sure a lava cake should not be flat. Other than its looks, it was a good piece of chocolate cake. The molten innards were lava like and with a chocolate taste. A strange looking cake but with the correct taste.  Coffee costs $4.20 each.

Overall, the new Prive Grill University Club is brighter and more posh looking than before. It is a nice restaurant for those living in the West part of Singapore. It is quiet most of the time in the evenings but bookings are advisable as the restaurant is frequently used to host university events. Certain discounts are applicable to a la carte orders for NUS Staff and Guild House members.
