Beach Road Prawn Mee is not at Beach Road but at East Coast Road. Albert Street Prawn Noodles is not at Albert Street but Old Airport Road. Jalan Sultan Prawn Mee at Jalan Ayer is quite some distance from Jalan Sultan. It is thus not surprising to find that Great World Prawn Noodle is nowhere near Great World City. Great World Prawn Noodle is located in Suntec City Food Republic Food Court.
Although Great World Prawn Noodle at Suntec City is part of Food Republic, it is more like a stand-alone eatery. It has its dedicated dining section. It sells the usual dishes you will find in prawn mee stalls – prawn noodles in soup or dry version, prawn noodles with pork ribs as well as ngoh hiang and beverages. It also sells pig organ soup, pig tail noodles and laksa.
We ordered the dry version of the basic prawn noodles ($5.50). They were served with soup in separate bowls.
There keys elements of prawn mee are soup, noodles and prawns. The soup of Great World Prawn Noodle at Suntec City would score highly. The stock of prawn heads and pork ribs was aromatic and flavourful and had natural sweetness. The noodles were cooked just right and were springy. The prawns were of reasonable size and tasted fresh and sweet. We liked their chilli. It gave the dish an extra dimension. Overall, the prawn noodles were not bad at all.
We also had a plate of ngoh hiang. The fritters, deep fried rolls and century egg did not look too attractive. In terms of taste, the dish was of acceptable standard. The chilli sauce also made the dish more enjoyable. The price of each of the item ranges from $1.20 to $2.50.
On the whole, both the prawn noodles and ngo hiang at Great World Prawn Noodle at Suntec City were not very special but were of decent standard and quite enjoyable. The place was air-conditioned and quite pleasant and the prices were reasonable.
