Common Man Stan is one of the best weekend brunch spots in Singapore’s Central Business District (CBD). A recently established outpost of the ever popular Common Man Coffee Roasters Café at 22 Martin, Common Man Stan is one of those cafes we wish we have near our office. The next best thing is to head to Stanley Street during a weekend to enjoy the cafe’s good food and coffee and cast aside the cares of the work week.
Common Man Cafe at Stanley Street
The second cafe of Common Man Coffee Roaster (CMCR) located at Stanley Street has an inviting atmosphere. The tables out in the walkway at once give the impression of a casual cafe that patrons can relax, sip a cup of coffee and dine.
Walk through the glass doors and you enter a charming and sophisticated space with interior design inspired by the glamour of Art Deco.
A long bar dominates the main dining space. There are booth seats in a dining area round the corner. Geometric graphics, stone countertops, brass-hued trims and natural textures of wood and rattan combined to create a sleek luxurious look. There are also playful elements, like a neon sign, to keep the atmosphere casual and relax.
Menu of Common Man Stan
Common Man Stan offers specialty coffee and casual cafe food. There are menus for lunch and dinner and separate menus for weekend breakfast and weekend lunch. The online menus can be found on their website. Below are photos of sections of Common Man Stan menus for the weekend.
Brunch at Common Man Stan
We visited Common Man Stan for brunch on a recent weekend and had their Croissant Croque Madame ($16) and Brioche French Toast ($19). We also ordered Fast Brew Coffee ($6 per cup). Ice water was served while we waited for our food.
It took quite a while for the food and coffee to arrive. The black coffee was strong and smooth and had chocolate notes and left a slightly tart aftertaste.
The Croissant Croque Madame was a good robust hot sandwich with cheese, ham, mustard, béchamel sauce and a fried egg with runny yolk. The toasted croissant was light and crisp. It might be just a fancy version of the common ham and cheese sandwich but it was very enjoyable.
Common Man Stan’s Brioche French Toast was served with berry compote, maple syrup & vanilla ice cream. It might not be the prettiest Brioche French Toast we had seen in Singapore cafes but it was certainly one of the best we had tasted. The thick bread slices doused with egg and butter were fried to perfection. The bread was soft and fluffy inside and there was a delicious crispy outer crust. The berry compote stuffed in the bread was not overly sweet and the cream cheese added a lovely balance. The vanilla ice cream was really the icing on the toast. The Brioche French Toast was simply delightful.
Brunch at Common Man Stan was a very pleasant experience. Service was polite and efficient. Good coffee, delicious food in a casual sleek cafe with a convivial atmosphere. Common Man Stan is one of our favourite weekend brunch spots in the CBD.
