The Flow @ East Coast is a new commercial building along East Coast Road, just opposite The Red House at Katong and the very popular Birds of Paradise Gelato Boutique. The Flow is designed to house duplex restaurants, retail shops and medical suites but many of the units are still empty. However, a good reason to go to The Flow now is for desserts at the new dessert cafe, Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop 金玉满堂甜品.
Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop
From afar, the brightly lit Jin Yu Man Tang looks like a Chinese eatery with old traditional Chinese inn decor. When you approach the shop you will see that it is a cafe with a mezzanine floor. The decor is somewhat eclectic but the place has a homely charm.
There is a small play area for kids with a rattan swing on the mezzanine floor. On the ground level, there is also al fresco seating out on the corridor.
Menu of Jin Yu Man Tang
Jin Yu Man Tang offers a wide range of traditional Cantonese desserts. Interesting items include the Signature Ginger Milk Pudding, Shunde Double Layered Milk Pudding and Deep Fried Milk. Besides desserts, there are also simple noodle dishes and a few savoury items available.

Desserts at Jin Yu Man Tang
We made an unscheduled dessert stop at Jin Yu Man Tang in Katong and ordered a hot Green Bean Soup with Seaweed ($3.50) and Grass Jelly with Red Bean ($2.50). Orders and payments are made at the counter. The desserts are served to the table.
Both desserts we tried were nice – good soft texture and palatable. The most noticeable thing was that they were not too sweet.
We would certainly be going back to Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop to try their Ginger Milk Pudding, Deep Fried Milk and other interesting items on the menu.
Cosy place for affordable desserts.
Those living in Katong should be happy with the new dessert shop in The Flow. Jin Yu Man Tang Dessert Shop is a nice comfortable place with a good range of affordable traditional desserts. It can be a good pit stop after meals or a cosy spot to while the afternoon away and you can even have a light meal there if you want to.
