Chang Korean BBQ Restaurant, Loewen by Dempsey Hill

Chang Korean BBQ is a Korean restaurant at Loewen by Dempsey Hill. The Loewen by Dempsey Hill is an extension of the core Dempsey dining area. The Loewen enclave is a few minutes walk from PS Cafe. The tenants in these former colonial buildings in the Loewen area include education, lifestyle and art establishments, a yoga and pilates studio, a luxury pet hotel (Waggington) and f & b outlets. Chang Korean BBQ is one of them.

Chang Korean BBQ is a large restaurant in Block 71, Loewen Road. It is simply furnished. Although the space is large with a high ceiling, the effect of having many BBQ stoves in an enclosed space left a distinct smoky smell in the air. Your colleagues will probably be able to guess where you went for lunch.

The Food

As is customary in Korean restaurants, an assortment of appetisers were served at the start of the meal. After that, the gas stove with charcoal was fired up. A member of the serving staff helped us with the cooking process.

We had a combination of sliced meat, prime rib and pork. The quality of the meat was very good. Probably the best meat I have tried in a BBQ restaurant in a while. They were tender and flavourful.

It was good that the server was on hand to help out with the cooking as he was familiar with the stove and the amount of cooking time. The result was that the meat were all expertly prepared. But we thought it was not a very engaging experience. The meat items were prepared one after another and served very quickly.
