Gong by Drinks & Co – tom yum, satay and quesadillas at new restaurant at DUO Galleria

The Gong by Drinks & Co is a new restaurant in the DUO Galleria. With a convenient direct connection to Bugis MRT station, DUO Galleria is the retail part of the DUO Singapore project. According to the DUO website, it is developed by M + S Pte Ltd that is owned 60:40 by Malaysia’s Khazanah Nasional Berhad and Singapore’s Temasek Holdings (Private) Limited respectively. The Gong is a smart casual restaurant that serves a wide range of food and beverages.

The new restaurant, Gong by Drinks & Co has a good location right next to the escalator from the Bugis MRT station. It is a spacious place to wine and dine, with large indoor and outdoor dining areas. Drinks & Co have restaurants in Club Street and Holland Village.

Here is a picture of the Gong by Drinks & Co menu. There is a good mix of popular East and Western restaurant dishes. Pan seared foie gras, coq au vin and be enjoyed in the same meal with satay, ikan bakar and mee goreng. The range of cuisine reminded us of Wine Company in Dempsey – which also has a wide range of food to go with an equally range of wine.

Our Food

We did not have any wine that day but tried to experiment with as wide a range of food as possible. The Gong Satay ($11) was good, one of my dining companions remarked that it reminded her of those served on SIA flights.

The Tom Yum soup ($17) could a meal by itself. The soup was not too spicy and contained a few large prawns. Steamed rice was served with the tom yum soup. A person dining alone and in the mood for a spicy lunch can try this dish.

The chicken quesadilla ($17) was not a pretty dish, but was the second best dish of our lunch. The various components of the item – the tortilla and the filling combined well to give a balanced taste. It is the sort of food that goes well with drinks.

Finally, we had to try a local favourite dish – fried rice. The crab meat with tobiko version ($14) at Gong by Drinks & Co is a more upmarket version of the humble fried rice. The taste of the seafood and aroma of wok hei made this the unanimous winner of the best dish of the day.
