Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant (家味) is located in Hotel Grand Mercure Roxy. After a recent makeover, it has a more contemporary and casual look. Jia Wei serves a variety of Singaporean-style home-cooked dishes, Currently, it has a good value set meals priced at $19.90++.
The new look Jia Wei does not look like the typical Chinese restaurant. There are Chinese motifs in the interior design. Otherwise, the airy space has an modern cafe feel.
Jia Wei Heartwarming Set Menu
Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant (家味) currently has “Heartwarming Set Menus Promotion” which allows diners to savour homecooked dishes from a selection of 3 set menus at just $19.90++ per set. The set menus are available for lunch and dinner daily.
We tried Set A and Set B. Both sets came with soup of the day, which was double-boiled pork rib soup with corn. The soup was a bowl of delicious goodness.
After the soup, the dishes for Set B were Prawns in Pumpkin Sauce and Smoked Duck Fried Rice. The deep-fried king prawns were plump and meaty and were well coated with the sweet creamy pumpkin puree. It was an impressive and delightful dish. The smoked duck fried rice looked ordinary but had a pleasant aroma and was surprisingly palatable.
The dishes for Set A were Dou Miao with Minced Garlic and Poached Half Lobster with Fish Noodles in Superior Stock. The vegetable dish was a plain and straightforward dish. It was something we would eat as part of a balanced diet rather than for pleasure.
On the other hand, the lobster and fish noodle dish would be something we would make room for even if we were on a strict diet. The dish looked good and tasted better than it looked. It was easily the best dish of our meal at Jia Wei. The lobster meat was sweet and was tender and buttery. The noodles had a very nice texture and taste. The stock was delicious. Every combined really well for a wonderful dish.
The desserts of Chilled Aloe Vera Lemongrass Jelly with Lime Sorbet and Hot Cheng Teng were very enjoyable too.
Good Food Excellent Value
We indeed had a rather heartwarming experience at Jia Wei Chinese Restaurant. Having a good dining experience is not the same thing as eating good food. Some places make their customers happy by serving overpriced beautifully plated fusion cuisine that tastes not bad. Jia Wei allows its patrons to relax and enjoy a sumptuous meal at a very reasonable price. Their set meals exceeded our expectations. A set with 4 good dishes in a full-service Chinese restaurant at just $19.90 was excellent value, especially when the portion was quite substantial and the food was of good quality and delicious too.
