We had a nice Italian restaurant set lunch in Singapore recently. The $28++ lunch deal at Amò Restaurant along Hong Kong Street looked enticing. The desserts at Amo are very good and the extra add on of $5 for a tiramisu was a no brainer. This was our set lunch.
Amò Restaurant is situated on the ground floor of a shophouse. It has a wide frontage, but it is difficult to spot from a distance as the buildings along whole street has busy facades with all kinds of signages. The Amò signboard is quite small, so its best to look out for the big blue awning.
My colleagues have been to this Italian restaurant for dinner and were quite impressed by it. You can read about it here. The place looks quite different in the day. I think it is more attractive by day. The dark themed decor looks a bit gloomy at night. The large window lets in a lot of light at the street end of the restaurant. The brightness tapers off as the light gives in to the darkness at the end. You can pick your level of brightness by deciding where to sit.
A Nice Italian Restaurant Set Lunch in Singapore
Here is a picture of the set lunch menu, the a la carte menu and a page from the wine list.
Lunch
Some pitted olives were served at the start of the meal and gave us something to nibble on as we waited for the food.
There were two choices of starters on the menu. We tried both of them. The burrata with salad (picture above) turned out to be the better choice. The burrata was fresh and clean tasting and goes well with the tomatoes and vegetables. The other starter, Parma ham consomme, truffles and rosemary oil looked more interesting on paper but turned to be a plain consomme with a few dumplings. The taste of the broth was good but it looked quite uninviting.
For the main course, there was a choice of potato gnochi or black cod. We both selected the black cod and did not regret it. It was a wonderful piece of fish. Fresh and perfectly cooked with the skin crisp like a papadum.
The additional $5 for dessert was sell spent. The tiramisu at Amò Restaurant was the best we have tasted in recent months. The coffee that was part of the set lunch was as good as those in a specialist coffee place. Service at the restaurant was helpful and courteous. Overall, it was a nice Italian restaurant set lunch in Singapore for $33++.
