Jia He Xing – new dumpling restaurant in Marina Square

Jia He Xing Marina Square

Jia He Xing is a Chinese casual dining restaurant, famous for its boiled dumplings and signature noodles. It has several outlets in Beijing and its first Singapore restaurant opened in Marina Square recently.

The new restaurant is on Level 3 of Marina Square (in the wing where the food court – Cookhouse by Koufu – occupies the fourth level). Jia He Xing specialises in handmade boiled dumpling. The kitchen is behind full glass panels – allowing diners to see the dumplings being prepared from scratch on the premises.

The interior decor is simple but pleasant. It has an airy feel and the tables are reasonably well spaced out.

Jia He Xing Menu

It is a dumplings and noodles restaurant but the menu of Jia He Xing offers a good selection of main courses, appetizers and beverages. The more interesting items on the menu will include boiled pork and mushroom dumplings, rainbow wantons and chilled glutinous rice roll with red bean paste.

Meal at Jia He Xing Marina Square

Jia He Xing Marina Square

Jia He Xing Marina Square is a full-service restaurant except that you have to go up to pay at the counter after your meal. The service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant’s special chilli and iced water were served as soon as our order was taken.

Beijing Signature Noodles

We ordered the Beijing Signature Noodles ($7.80). The soup was served first. The noodles’ with a dollop of thick sauce on top, and a tray of vegetables came soon after.

The noodle dish at Jia He Xing was a good version of the popular Nothern Chinese Zha Jiang Mian (炸酱面) or noodles with fermented soybean paste. The noodles had a nice texture and the thick salty sauce was flavourful. The vegetables provided the crunchiness. When everything was well mixed, it was a simple dish with complex flavours.

Boiled Dumpling

We tried two types of boiled dumplings – pork and mushroom ($6 for 6 pieces) and pork & Chinese cabbage ($5.50 for 6 pieces). The dumplings with different fillings looked the same. The skins were smooth and neither too thin nor too chewy. Encased in the wrappers were tasty hot broth and delicate filling with clean flavours. Both types of dumplings were nice but we had a slight preference for the pork & Chinese cabbage filling which had some crunchiness over the more eathly taste of the pork and mushroom filling.

Dipping the dumplings in the chilli provided or eating them with ginger slices in vinegar would enhance the enjoyment of the boileddumplings

Chicken Mushroom Rice

We also had the Chicken with Fragrant Mushroom ($11) which came with a bowl of white steamed rice.

It was like a homecooked dish. Nothing very exciting about the braised chicken in a soy sauce-based broth. It was comfort food that was good for a simple meal.

Affordable Dining Option

Jia He Xing adds to the range of affordable dining options in Marina Square. Those who like boiled dumplings should like Jia He Xing. The new restaurant should also appeal to those looking for a reasonably priced simple meal. The lunch sets are really good value. A satisfying meal at a good price can is always a joy. We will happily eat at He Xing in Marina Square again.
