Today’s post is about our Imperial Treasures Shanghai Takeaway from Takashimaya Shopping Centre, Ngee Ann City. The full name of the restaurant is Imperial Treasure Fine Shanghai Cuisine and what we ate was mainly dumplings.
Some of the Imperial Treasures restaurants are are open for takeaways and delivery. To make it more attractive to consumers, some discounts of 20% or 15% are offered. In the case of takeaways from Imperial Treasure Fine Shanghai Cuisine in Takashimaya Shopping Centre there is currently a discount of 20%. We ordered three types of dumplings and a sauteed string beans with minced pork.
Collection of our food from the restaurant was easy. We had called in advance and the food was made ready for us at the appointed time. It is however not as convenient as those places which have driveway collection without having to leave the car.
Imperial Treasures Shanghai Takeaway
We had browsed the Imperial Treasures Shanghai Takeaway Menu and concluded that the dumplings looked like the most interesting. For contrast we ordered the fried long beans. That turned out to be a good decision as the beans provided contrast, both in terms of looks as well as flavour and texture to the dumplings.
I can say straightaway that all the dumplings that we ordered for lunch was good. The steamed chive dumplings ($12.60 for 6 pieces, picture below) were tasty but very small. We could taste the chives in the dumpling and liked the taste. But the other dumplings probably offer more value for money.
The wonton dumpling with chilli sauce ($9.60 for 6 pieces, picture below) offered much better value for money. The picture below shows the dumplings before we added the chilli sauce. They were fat and juicy and almost twice the size of the chive dumplings. The chilli sauce was not too spicy.
The pan-fried Shanghai pork dumpling ($12.60 for 6, picture below) had their bottoms seared till golden brown. Like Japanese gyoza, they will go well with some cold beer.
Our final dish of fried long beans ($20, picture below) was the odd item in our Imperial Treasures Shanghai Takeaway lunch. All the three dumplings had some differences – steamed, fried and with chilli but there was a “sameness” in them. It was good to have a crunchy vegetable dish to break the monotony.
It turns out that the dumplings and the long beans combine very well together. They look so much better when taken out of the plastic boxes.
Our dumplings and fried long beans lunch from the Imperial Treasures Shanghai Takeaway turned out better than we anticipated. The prices indicated above are before the 20% discount and GST. The total cost of lunch for two persons was $47.42.
