Shisen Hanten Takeaway from Mandarin Orchard Hotel

Encouraged by the 40% discount and the two-Michelin Star distinction of the Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro restaurant, we decided to order some Shisen Hanten takeaway food from the Mandarin Orchard Hotel.

Shisen Hanten by Chen Kentaro is a beautiful Chinese restaurant located on the 35th floor of the Mandarin Orchard Hotel. This space was formerly occupied by the Pine Court Chinese restaurant. The last time we were there was in 2015. You can read about our visit here. There is currently a 40% discount for takeaway food from Shisen Hanten and a 20% discount off the rice dumplings. Here are some sample screenshots of the Mandarin Hotel takeaway food menu. Do take mote that, currently, takeaway food collection during this period is from Chatterbox on level 5.

Our Shisen Hanten Takeaway Lunch

Since this was our first Shisen Hanten Takeaway we picked items from different parts of the menu – an XO Nonya dumpling ($7.30), a Roasted London Duck and Honey-glazed Barbecued Pork Donburi (伦敦鸭蜜汁叉烧丼饭)($15) and a Shisen Hanten Signature Steamed Chicken with Sesame Sauce (四川饭店名菜棒棒鸡) ($15.60). The prices are after discount and before GST.

The Duck and BBQ Pork Donburi looks like a box of char siew and roast duck rice to us. We thought that the duck was average but we enjoyed the char siew which was served in thick slices and was not fatty.

We were less enthusiastic about the signature chicken with sesame sauce. This is a picture of it before adding the sesame sauce. Basically a ball of shredded chicken which was bland by itself. Adding the thick sesame sauce improved it but it is not a dish we would order again.

Shisen Hanten Takeaway

Our favourite item of our Shisen Hanten Takeaway was the XO Nonya Dumpling. The first impression was good. The dumpling had a nice sheen and the bamboo leaf wrapper was tight and well constructed.

This Nyonya dumpling did not have the distinctive blue markings (I believe created by butterfly pea flowers) that we often find in such dumplings. The taste was good with a good balance of meat and rice.
