Fong Sheng Hao 豐盛號 from Taipei’s Shilin Market is famous for its charcoal-grilled sandwiches. However, the small cafe in PLQ Mall is not just a place for breakfast or snacks. You can have a good meal there too, now that there are also rice bowls at Fong Sheng Hao Singapore.
Located in basement 2 of PLQ Mall, Fong Sheng Hao 豐盛號 Singapore is a place we had visited for breakfast (see Fong Sheng Hao 豐盛號 – retro Taiwanese breakfast cafe in PLQ Mall). The popular Taiwanese chain store known best for its milk tea and fluffy egg sandwiches has added rice bowls to its menu. It has also introduced online ordering for delivery and self-pick up,
Fong Sheng Hao Menu
In addition to their signature sandwiches, Taiwan Popcorn Chicken Rice and Taiwan Braised Pork Rice are now on the menu. Popcorn Chicken and Taiwan Sausage are also available as side dishes.
Below are are pictures of the current menu of Fong Sheng Hao Singapore.
Rice Bowls at Fong Sheng Hao
We ordered the Popcorn Chicken Rice with Black Tea Set ($13.40) and the Braised Pork Rice with Local Kopi Set ($10.10). The sets included sugared toasts, which were served with the drinks. The rice bowls would arrive about 10 minutes later.
Popcorn Chicken Rice
Popcorn chicken is a popular Taiwanese street snack. It is basically chicken marinated with soy sauce, Chinese five-spice powder, pepper and various other ingredients, coated with starch and egg and deep fried. The Popcorn Chicken Rice is thus plain steamed rice with small pieces of the crispy fried chicken, plus a sunny side up, cucumber and a small piece or pork patty. You will like the dish if you enjoy popcorn chicken. The taste and texture of the fried chicken will dominate the dish.
Taiwan Braised Pork Rice
We prefer the Lu Rou Fan, or Taiwanese Braised Pork Rice, to the Popcorn Chicken Rice Bowl at Fong Sheng Hao. The braised pork rice bowl had a generous helping of braised pork plus egg, pork floss and cucumber. The pork braised in broth of soy sauce, sugar, five-spice powder and rice wine was tender and flavourful. The rice bowl was simple and straightforward and enjoyable.
The introduction of rice bowls at Fong Sheng Hao makes it a good option for a complete meal at the cafe. The stars may still be its charcoal-grilled sandwiches but the rice bowls are not bad as supporting casts.
