Wine Connection Bistro PLQ – Good Value Deals

Wine Connection is a chain of wine shops which also operates bistros, tapas bars and cheese bars. Wine Connection Bistro PLQ is a restaurant and integrated wine shop in the Eastern part of Singapore for affordable bottles of wine as well as good value meals.

Wine Connection Bistro PLQ

We had dined at Wine Connection Bistro HillV2 on several occasions. In our post, Wine Connection Bistro HillV2 – set lunch at a restaurant with attached wine shop in Upper Bukit Timah, we wrote about Wine Connection’s 2 Course Set Lunch priced at $18++. When we visited Wine Connection Bistro PLQ recently, it has a Value Set Lunch for only $14.90++. What the politicians are telling us about negative inflation may be true after all.

The Wine Connection wine shop and bistro in Paya Lebar Quarter has the contemporary casual look. There is a small indoor dining area and a large al fresco section.

Wine Connection Bistro Menu

The menu has gone digital. You scan a QR code to view the menu on your smartphone. It has a section on “New Dishes” and a “Set Menu” section. There are a Value Set Lunch ($14.90), a Dessert & Coffee Set ($6.90) and a Kid’s Set ($12).

Value Set Lunch

The Value Set Lunch allows diners to choose a pizza or pasta and a soft drink. The set comes with salad. You can top up $5 for a glass of wine.

We opted for a soft drink and Spaghetti Bolognese.

Water was served promptly. The drink and salad came soon after. The portion of the salad was quite substantial. It was a guilt free dish with colours, flavours and textures.

The Spaghetti Bolognese looked basic but it was delicious. There was a balance of meat and tomato flavours in the thick sauce, with some tartness well counterbalanced by sweetness. The texture of the pasta was just right.

Beef Cheese Burger

We ordered a Beef Cheese Burger ($15) from the a la carte menu. The burger with fries were attractively plated.

The thick ground beef patty was cooked to the doneness specified. It was topped by thick juicy slices of tomatoes and lots of carmelised onions. The brioche bun was lightly toasted. It was a yummy burger. Just be warned that you won’t be able to eat it elegantly – expect a messy plate half way through the big juicy burger.

Dessert & Coffee Set

We decided to round off our lunch with the Dessert & Coffee Set ($6.90), opting for the Chocolate Lava Cake and a cup of Americano.

The Chocolate Lava Cake was served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. It looked good. The rich, moist and tender cake was chocolatey and decadent. The ice cream just made the dessert an even more indulgent treat.

Good Value Meal

Our lunch at Wine Connection Bistro PLQ was a good value meal. The sets were attractively priced. The food came in substantial portion and was generally delectable and enjoyable. Wine Connection may be best known for offering affordable quality wines but its bistro is also an appealing dining destination for a good affordable meal, with or without wine.
