La Taperia Spanish Restaurant: $38++ Set Lunch

La Tapería Spanish restaurant is a restaurant in Shaw Centre. It is a member of the Les Amis Group which also has several other food outlets in the same building, such as Les Amis, Bistro Du Vin and La Strada. We tried the $38++ set lunch.

La Taperia Spanish Restaurant Review

The decor of the La Taperia Spanish restaurant seemed to have changed since a previous visit when it first opened in 2014. It was more oppulent and unique. The 2021 La Taperia Spanish restaurant look is casual and light.

La Taperia Spanish Restaurant Review

Gone are the plush sofas and stools, replaced by a uniform set of bistro style wooden chairs to go with marble topped tables. Don’t be fooled by these photos taken at the start of lunch on a weekday. La Taperia soon filled up over the next 30 minutes. It is advisable to make a reservation.

La Taperia Spanish Restaurant Menu

Here are pictures of the La Taperia set lunch menu and a few sample pages from the wine list. The set lunch costs $38++ per person with surcharges for some of the courses.

The restaurant currently has a 20% discount on wines by the bottle (until July 2021). We selected a half-size bottle (375 ml) of Spanish wine from the Rioja region. Priced at $60 before the discount – it was a nice red Spanish wine that was very drinkable straight out of the bottle.

Starters

La Taperia Spanish Restaurant Review

Our choice of starters were : traditional Spanish appetiser board (picture above) and fried egg and braised snails in sherry (picture below). The appetiser board with charcuterie, marinated anchovy, cheese and tomato dressing was enjoyable and it felt like we were dining in Seville, Spain. Our other starter was just as good. Anything with runny egg yolk can’t be bad right? The dish became less attractive after stirring the egg with the snails, piquillo red pepper, mushroom and potato. But it tasted delicious.

Main Courses

For main courses, we selected charcoal grilled Welsh lamb leg (picture above) and butter roasted Pacific codfish. Both were good. The lamb was a better choice as it was not gamey. The cod was not as oily as we were expecting from cod fish.

La Taperia Spanish Restaurant Set Lunch: Desserts

Our desserts were a cheese platter and dark chocolate tartlet (each required a $3 surcharge). The cheese was quite average the tartlets were very nice.
