Sweet Cheeks Gelato Lavender is set to make the hip cafe district a happier place. The new outlet at Tyrwhitt Road serves coffee and handcrafted creamy gelato, churned daily in small batches, in a delightful calm space. It is a great new spot for gelato on a hot afternoon as well as a sweet treat late at night.
Sweet Cheeks Gelato Lavender
When the the weather gets hot, there are few things more enjoyable than having ice cream in a pleasant cool cafe. Singapore is luckier than most tropical cities in this regard. Our small island is dotted by many ice cream parlours and gelato cafes. Another one has just opened up in the Jalan Besar-Lavender area.
Sweet Cheeks makes creamy gelato in small batches and has heartland shops in Potong Pasir and Ang Mo Kio. It also delivers islandwide. Sweet Cheeks Gelato Lavender is their new outlet. Located in Tyrwhitt Road, just opposite Chye Seng Huat Hardware Coffee, with Wimbly Lu and Tiramisu Hero nearby, Sweet Cheeks Gelato adds to the diverse dining options in the hip precinct.
Stylish & Spacious
The new cafe has a stylish clean look. The impressive espresso machine and gelato on display greet you as you enter the premises. There is a little alcove at the front, which is presumably for selfies and OOTD photos.
The interior design and colour palette of the new gelato cafe create a leisurely and relaxing atmosphere. The light colour scheme makes the long spacious space look bigger than it is. The seating area is in fact very big by ice cream stores standard.
Sweet Cheeks Gelato
There is a wide selection of gelato flavours. The timeless classics, available all the time, include Ricotta With Pistachio Bits, Marshmallow Oreo, Mango Coconut and Lemoncurd With Speculoos Bits.
There are also flavours on rotation. These include Irish Coffee, Hojicha, Cinnamon Brown Bread and Baileys & Brownies. In addtion, there are seasonal flavours available for limited time – like Mojito and Acai Banana.
The gelato will cost $4 for a single scoop, $7.50 for double scoops, with an additional $1 for premium flavours and additional $2 for gourmet flavours.
You can have your gelato straight up or in a cone as well as with waffle, brownie or cake. Affrogato and milkshake are also available. The menu of Sweet Cheeks Gelato Lavender is below.
Gelato & Waffle at Sweet Cheeks
We visited the new Sweet Cheeks Gelato Cafe a few days after its opening. It is a self-service cafe. You order and pay at the counter and will be given a buzzer to prompt you to collect when your order is ready.
We ordered a single scoop of Honey Chrysanthemum with Cacao Nibs ($5); a scoop of Lychee with Raspberry Bits ($4) with Waffle ($6); Latte ($5) and Americano ($4.50).
The Honey Chrysanthemum with Cacao Nibs was rich and creamy with a nice floral scent. The cocao nibs were like chcoloate chips. The scoop of gelato was enjoyable. We would order this again.
The Lychee with Raspberry Bits gelato was refreshing. The waffle was of the expected standard – fluffy on the inside and slightly crispy on the outside. If you are going primarily for waffle, you probably have better options in the neighbourhood. However, if you are going for good gelato and want waffle on the side, Sweet Cheeks will do nicely.
Hot Afternoon & Late Night Treat
The coffee is good enough to make Sweet Cheeks Gelato a serious cafe for some caffeine top up even when you are not in the mood for ice cream. It serves beer too. It opens late into the night – as late, or early, as 1 am on Friday and Saturday.
We like the gelato we tried and we like the spacious dining area. The prices are reasonable. Sweet Cheeks Gelato Lavender is a very nice spot for a hot afternoon refreshment or a late night treat. We are likely to visit Sweet Cheeks more often – and likely to get fat cheeks soon.
