MilkFish is a casual dining restaurant for hawker-style seafood soup without MSG, dairy and preservatives. The MilkFish Millenia Walk is a new outlet in a convenient location for healthy and tasty slow-cooked seafood soup in a comfortable environment.
虱目鱼 Milk Fish
虱目鱼 Milk Fish (or milkfish) is a silvery-coloured fish found in Indian Ocean and Pacific Ocean. It is known as awa in Hawaii or ava in Tahiti. It is called bangús in the Philippines, and bandeng or bolu in Indonesia. The fish is popular in many Asian countries and there is even a Milk Fish Cultural Festival (虱目魚文化節活動) in Taiwan and a Bangus Festival in the Philippines.
MilkFish Millenia Walk
MilkFish Singapore is a seafood soup restaurant inspired by the popular milk fish. The fish’s gelatinous belly fat, and its milky emulsion and sweet taste, eliminates the need to add any milk to the seafood broth of the crowd-pleasing dish found in most food centres in Singapore. The restaurant collaborates with Áo Broth – a homegrown collagen soup brand popular for its all-natural broths made fresh in small batches – to ensure that they can consistently serve tasty soup made of quality ingredients and free of MSG, dairy and preservatives.
We had tried the MilkFish soup when we did a takeaway from the Raffles City outlet in mid 2021. We were happy to see a new outlet on the ground level of Millenia Walk when we visited the mall recently. The MilkFish outlets have a consistent casual diner look. The interior is simple and functional. MilkFish Millenia Walk is a pleasant and comfortable place for a quick meal.
Menu of MilkFish
The menu of MilkFish was more extensive than we had expected. Besides seafood soups, there were also grilled items and side dishes like Cai Po Omelette and Prawn Roll.
Below are screenshots of sections of the digital menu which we accessed by scanning a QR code in the restaurant.
Lunch at MilkFish Millenia Walk
We ordered the Signature Soup Set ($16.80) and and the Grilled Fish Set ($23.80). Each set included side dishes, a beverage and a choice of noodles or rice.
The set meals were attractively presented. The food definitely looked better than when they were in takeaway containers
The ingredients in the soup included slices of red snapper, a whole prawn and clams. The sweetish red snapper had a nice tender and smooth texture. The other seafood others were generally fine. The star of the dish was the broth. The creamy broth was rich in flavours and had a lingering sweet aftertaste.
The Grilled Fish Set gave us a chance to taste milk fish belly. There was a layer of belly fat on the fish – it was soft and gelatinous with a neutral taste. The fish was moderately charred outside but moist inside. There was a nice smoky flavour. The meat had a firm texture and a mild sweet taste. A squeeze of lemon and some dipping sauce would enhance the enjoyment of the milk fish.
Nice place for healthy tasty fish soup
Hot bowls of fish soup is a healthy and economical hawker dish that is very popular in Singapore. You can now enjoy the dish not only in the food centres and coffeeshops but also at home or in a swanky mall like Millenia Walk. MilkFish Millenia Walk has a takeaway service and is a pleasant casual restaurant for a bowl of healthy and tasty fish soup.
