So France Orchard – New French Restaurant at Orchard Towers

So France Orchard is the second outlet of the restaurant whose first Singapore outlet is at Duo Galleria. This new French bistro is located at the inner tower, away from Orchard Road and along Claymore Road.

New Restaurant at Orchard Towers

Orchard Towers might not be the first place that comes to mind if we were to set up a new French restaurant in Singapore. But now that we have visited the new So France Orchard outlet, we think that it is a brilliant idea. The restaurant is situated on the ground floor of the inner block, along Claymore Road and faces the expensive district 9 condos. There is enough space for an alfresco area, an indoor restaurant and a good-sized grocery store. The long frontage with bright blue and white awnings provide great visibility to passing traffic.

The restaurant interior of the new So France bistro at Claymore is tastefully furnished. The main dining hall (picture above) has a French bistro feel, updated by contemporary touches. There is an inner section (picture below) that has a more modern feel.

So France Orchard: The Grocery Store

Adjoining the restaurant is a sizeable grocery store. Here you can find lots of things that are edible, French and probably delicious (from the looks of it). For a better look, please view our So France Orchard Youtube video at the end of this post.

Here are pictures of the So France lunch menu and sample pages from the wine list. We decided to try the set lunch which costs $28++ or $32++ respectively for a 2 or 3 course lunch. There is choice of starter or soup for appetiser and a choice of fish or meat for main course. Since there were two of us, we tried each of the options.

Our Lunch: The Appetisers

Both our appetisers were not bad. The corn soup (picture above) was a decent soup that was slightly sweet but well balanced overall. But we thought that the salad starter had more interesting flavours. The eggplant and hummus combined well with the rest of the salad.

Lunch at So France: The Main Course

The main course was a tale of two dishes. The seafood risotto (picture above) was excellent. The seafood was fresh and cooked just right. The risotto was nicely favoured and everything combined well. We were not fond of the meat dish (picture below). It was a mixed collection of meat pieces on a bed of baked beans. The pieces of sausage and the two flat pieces in the centre were fine. But there were chunks of what seemed like preserved meat. These were rubbery and very hard to eat.

Dessert

We tried the dessert of the day. It was a large scoop of cream with pieces of meringue inside. It was mostly sweet and pretty looking.
